From what I have read there seems to be a problem with the power draw that a hack can impose on a bikes charging system and battery storage. Does anyone have a feel for whether or not changing over lighting to LED bulbs on the hack and bike where possible would have any major benifit. I know they draw much less current. Also can an additional battery in the trunk of the hack be somehow integrated to help this situation?. The gent I bought the hack from always carried a Jump starter box with him because long trips running all the lights weakened his battery. Any comments would be helpfull.

There has been a lot of discussion at times over on the Ural web board. You might go there and do a search for those LED threads... www.imz-ural.com then community then web board... Good luck!

An auto battery in the boot of the hack will eliminate the electrical load problem and also makes good ballast. For safety's sake make sure the (wet cell) battery is vented and not in a sealed trunk where hydrogen gas can accumulate.

My original version Hannigan has 18 wheeler type - round, mount in bumper by rubber grommet, sealed beam turn signal (amber) and running/brake lights (red). ( ) After 15+ years of exposure they were starting to look a little hazed over, and basically *old*. I was able to source direct replacement LED grid units that mounted in place. ( http://www.buytruckstuff.com/product.asp?selcategory=61&p_gpID=229 ) I did have to mount a cheap-mans resistor (a concealed regular filament bulb wired in series) to bring the turn signal flash rate back down to normal.

I didn't make the change due to current draw issues, but rather, in interest of improving rear visibility. They definitely do improve it for an otherwise inattentive following motorist.
