Larger Struts
Gentlemen I have a 1977 Goldwing that I am putting a Frieendship II sidecar on. The struts are from a different Goldwing setup and measure 12 inches in length. I would feel better if the struts were say 16 inches long and the heim connectors were not so far extended. I called california side cars to see if they had longer struts but was told that was the longest available in the straight design. Do you know where I could find longer struts. This is my first rig so I am new to this whole thing. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Bob
I'll bet Claude Stanley of C Stanley Motorworks would be glad to make you a set any length you'd like. Probably Jay at Dauntless, Lonnie on the west coast, or Bob at Texas sidecar would as well. Probably most of the rigging advertisers in the links sections for that matter.
I mentioned Claude first, as he is an East Coast guy, and most the others are central or west coast.
Feel free to contact me at cstanley@sunlink.net or call (570) 765-8310 or (570) 837-5182 in the evenings. Operators are standing by...(Always wanted to say that)LOL.

The 12" struts will work just fine on your GL. The only reason to change them would be cosmetic if you don't want to look at threads. It certsainly isn't a safety issue.

Lonnie,
I had mentioned to him on the phone that if he wanted to cover up the threads we could send him a threaded sleeve to do so. That would also add some 'beef' to the threaded area. I agree that it is more than likely fine as is as far as structure goes.
