I put a Champion Legend sidecar on a 1948 Indian Chief.
So far so good with the poor brakes.

A disc brake can be installed on the sidecar but I haven't
explored how to combine the poor mechanical brakes on the
Indian with a disc brake on the sidecar.

Any thought?

Dual pedals have been used a lot in sidecar work to engage both the sidecar and bike rear brakes. This works especially well when the bike and sidecar have different types of braking systems. For instance, one with mechanical brakes and one hydraulic or one with disc brakes and one with drum brake.
Motorvation and some others have a sidecar master cylinder and pedal assembly for this purpose.

To post pix in your album resize them if they have too many KB's to upload. With XL, right click on the picture and click on medium or small to get an optional picture to upload without disturbing the original.

Hello David,
my first MZ had hydraulic front disc that was excellent, a fair mechanical back drum with a pull bar and a HORRIBLE hydraulic sidecar drum working with a double pedal as you mention.
!!!! I'd never again mix hydraulic and mechanical break.!!!!
Now my Jawa has again an excellent front disk and pretty good to fair back and sidecar drums, Both are governed this time by fexible cables coming from the foot pedal- Gib is the same / dosification is excellent and saved my belly allready once in a flying left bend in transit and a deep hole in my lane.

I'd allways go with the same type of break on back and sidecar with the same actuator system/principle. And keep an eye on it that the gibs and drum pads are well adjusted. The cable need fresh grease or better oil frequently.

For the Indian a hydraulic break would be anyway a style break, wouldn't it?
Regards
Sven Peter
