My Ultra rig is an '07 with an '08 car. It has reverse installed and I seem to be having a hard time finding neutral. I'm wondering if the two are related? I can't say what brand of kit was used for the reverse gear and the previous owner has passed so help there. Any thoughts? thanks...

If you know where the PO lived just check with the local HD dealer, chances are they put it in.

The British reverse sold by Champion is in (at least) it's 3rd generation, so that's probably what you have,
The '07 Harley will go into neutral much better when moving than when standing still.
With the 3rd generation Champion reverse I still had trouble getting in and out of reverse.
I've switched over to the AIM "Mamba" reverse kits.
I've never tried the Baker reverse so have no input to offer there.

Problems in locating neutral are most likely clutch-related. I would first try the clutch adjustment procedure outlined in the service manual I would also see whether the primary chain is correctly adjusted as well. Beyond that I would check that the clutch unit has the correct lubricant in the primary chanicase. Otherwise you could have someone look at it for you at the dealer.

I sort of doubt it has anything to do with the reverse unit. The Champion reverse unit is the most common at this point in time so it's likely that you have one.

Thanks for the input guys. I have not had much luck with my local Harley shop but will ask them next time I'm there. I kind of figured it was a Champion kit but thought I had read somewhere that they shortened something to make room in the gear box.

I had not thought of the clutch, and it shifts ok, but checking is not a big deal. So far it is more a nuisance than a real problem and am just trying to decide if it is me or the bike. Thanks again.

That's definitely a Champion unit then. The sector shaft in the transmission must be shortened .250 (1/4") as part of the installation procedure for a Champion Reverse.. That has nothing to do with the clutch. Check your adjustment.
