friendship 1 suspension now that it is apart
The swingarm pivot came apart quite nicely. There is a roller bearing that rolls on a hardened race instead of a bushing. The hardened race is on it's way to failure. The bearing is not happy either, the rollers are still round but won't be much longer.
Is the roller bearing a good setup or does it have a short life span?
Did these originally come this way or is this an upgrade that is nearing the end of it's life.
As always thanks for your time,
Joe
Roller bearings for the swing and tapered rollers (Timken) for the hub are the best load handlers in my estimation. They are the upgrade. With a little maintenance and no salt water immersion they should last for decades.
You can match them at any bearing supply.

Lonnie do you have any tech. drawings of these in your basement somewhere??, my cali1 will require a go over soon, and a spec sheet is always nice to have, thanx. crawf.
Sorry Crawf,
No basement and no CSC spec sheets.

LOL,..I'm lucky if the wife lets me out of my basement, I'd like to tear my suspension apart, but want the pieces right there to replace, not sculking through work for days trying to find them, hehe , as I have an undesturbed factory install, I know I'll have to refit something along the way, cause I know there are no parts for them anywhere. , thanx Lonnie, crawf.
Crawf,
Are the torsion straps still OK? If they're not, I know there are a lot of old VW Beetles still around up there for a parts supply.

I had gone threw my whole rig just took out for its first drive handles pretty good, I have all bearing part #'s for wheel hub bearings and axles roller bearing, will post them when I get home tonight
one other thing I forgot to mention after you replace bearings I would also inspect the axle spring if there good I would grease them and reinstall.
