Frame Dimensions

Hi -

I was wondering if anybody has approximate frame dimensions for the Harley 36 - 67 sidecar? I'm thinking to build a rig myself, construct the frame from 1 1/2" x 0.095 DOM tubing, and then purchase a body from L&W Body. He tells me that he makes an exact replica tub. What size is that tub, and what dimensions should I make a basic rectangular frame to support that tub?

Thanks!

Dave

I think I would ask the guy that's makes the tub, find out what the mounting point dimensions are, over all dimensions, where the tub wheel will go for set back and go from there with your design for the frame.

Dave,
A harley frame is pretty much the same from 36 to 08 now by that I mean the mounting of the tub only.

The tub's are suspended on leaf springs to the front and rear mounts that are bolted to the underside of the body by 3 bolts each I believe.

I would think that you could take dimentions from any HD frame to get yourself an idea of what you will need for the frame to body but keep in mind that the style tub you are considering on using has a cut out on the underside of the tub to allow the frame axle clearance when going over a rough section of road when your sidecar is loaded only the body is suspended, the frame and wheel has always been rigid mounted there was no shock or swing arm on the wheel for stock HD frames.

When you look on the L&W web site you will also see the mounts for the body to leaf springs I spoke about earlier among other items.
