OK, I need some help, as I'm in the doghouse now. After we "dark-sided" Jena'a Burgman rig with a Nexen auto tire, we needed to re-adjust the lean-out a little more. However, in the rush to ride today, I banged a tool into the body of the Texas sidecar (yeah, I should have covered it) and put a ding just thru the gelcoat, maybe 1" long by 1/8" wide. What's the best way to repair a small fiberglass ding? Thanks, Lee

I have found some excellent small spot repair kits at a local boat dealer. One in particular for smaller rock chips or scratches was like a two part epoxy that you cut off and knead together and fill the groove. Using regular fiberglass is actually fairly easy its just requires mixing a larger amount and throw what you don't use away. The bigger issue is getting a color match back when your done. Good luck your not alone here I've been there with that one.

I work in the fiberglass industry and if you called Texas Sidecar they may have small gel coat touch up kits. That way you would get the correct color although gel coat colors can very slightly between different batches.

If this is a solid color and not a metallic it should be easy.

You should be able to mix up a small batch and use something like a toothpick to apply it to the chip. You will want to leave it a little high and then sand off flush with 400 grit and buff.

Thanks for the tips, Fred & Fred: I went web-looking and found the 1:1 epoxy plus "Evercoat Gel Coat Scratch Patch: ...This one part formula does not need a catalyst. Just fill in the crack, let it set and scrape off the excess with the enclosed spreader. It is just that easy..." I'll try this product, but it will likely be another one of those 1 hour projects that takes the better part of a day. A good thing is the Patch is available in white as Jena's sidecar is white gel coat. It's also available in clear for colors & metal flake.

If anyone has used this product, I all ears for suggestions & tips. I probably should also search iboats.com for info. Thanks, Lee
