Last week I read on one of the Yahoo sites (I think it was SKUNK) One fellow had the inertube showing through the sidewall of his rear tire. He did some carefull wrapping with Duct tape and carefully drove off untill he could find a tire replacement.

One reason I carry a small roll in my kit.

I usually wear a MG TC Scissors Jack. Go down to your local BMC and a scoop on the cheap. All seriousness aside, take a scissors to a pick-up Chevrolet or GMC old is quite compact, robust, low profile, and should not be longer than the nearest relief from the court at a reasonable price.

I carried a TD jack (same thing) for decades but lost the goofy handle so I chucked it. The GM pickup jack is less than 4" tall collapsed so it works better anyway.

i carry a side jack from a 1984 chevy cavalier, i stick it under the center stand and pick my 1985 1200 goldwing with no problem, had the rear wheel out and in again many times. for the front wheel i place a piece of 2x4 across and under the front of the motor and the frame, stick the jack in the center of the 2x4 and pick it up, again no problem.
