electric reverse...?
Hello to all...was just checking parts and such on ebay for sidecars and someone has
a late 90's rig with electric reverse...? So who knows all the in's and out"s for this
type of reverse ? This add does have pics. and I do see one where it looks like a battery
is stored behind seat for power, I guess this would work for ballast weight but what about
actual reverse theory good or bad...? Just curious...Thanks for your time... 🙂
Harley tried electric reverse once. Heavy unit with starter motor and ring gear, battery in the trunk of the car. They worked for a while then went kaput. Cumbersome, slow and not well engineered.
I don't know much about the new 2009-10 Trike electric reverse systems except they are most likely pricey and probably not adaptable to a sidecar.

Most electric reverse units on sidecar rigs are probably homebuilt. That means this one is a peach and that one might be a pit. Some drive the sidecar wheel, others (like mine) drive the rear wheel of the cycle. I have seen some that are engineering masterpieces. Others were pretty useless. Yes, electric reverse units can be slow. However if, like me, physical limitations prevent you from pushing your rig backwards, electric reverse can be a Godsend.

Ural rigs have a geared reverse. Honda GL1500 & GL1800's have an electric reverse that works off the starter motor. It runs it backwards. It's not for long distance, but good for when you need a little help.
