You might grease the jack screw or any other apparent articulating joints that are accessable.

Lonnie the jack screw must be inside the shaft, it looks like a Hyd jack but it thumps when it bottoms or tops out, I just wondered if it was necessary to check oil in the gear box, I guess I'll have to call Calf. Sidecars and see if I can find out anything, they are not the most helpful people in the world so who knows.

Thomson Saginaw Ball Screw 12 VDC Performance Pak Linear Actuators
Part # 5704114 with 4" Stroke and 1,500 lb load capacity.

AFAIK you don't need to do any "Normal" Mtce on them.
However I found that on my rig the Wiper just isn't up to the task where it is mounted in the wheel well. So I used a MX Fork Gator, cut to fit, to cover the unit to keep the mud and slop away from the shaft and seal.
In the last 7 years it has been trouble free and clean, inside the Gator that is. 😉

Hi;I I have just purchased a Champion 2+2, Shadow mentioned a thump from his suspension? When ever I hit a bump get a very harsh thump and jolt in the seat!Wondering if there is some suspension out of adjustement?Maybe expecting to much my 47 Indian car is far superior ride than this thing!!Expected these new fancy things to ride better maybe just expecting to much??

Jack it up, I use the elc lean to do that, run it down and block the SC frame then raise the wheel, now check the swing arm bolt for tightness, check the shock by prying it up with something to see if the bushings are OK, mine made noises that drove me nuts untill I found that the foot rest cross bar was doing it, a bungee took care of that.

Hi;Shadow in your second post you referred to a thump in suspension that is what I was wondering about!Mine seems to bottom very harshly when hitting a bump,I have no ownersmanual for it if there is even one?Feels like no springs yet when car is empty it seems tomove freely on the suspension?WIll get under there and look as you recomended!I only drove it a couple times before leaving for the winter so now will get at it see what Ican find. Was I wrong to expect it to ride better than my 60 year old Indian car??As with the HD car they never changed them much in the last 60-70 years.Maybe there is a reason they stayed with the old springs??

OK,, you got me on that one but were talking apples and oranges, the thump I mentioned is from the actuator rather than from the suspension it was a poor attempt to explain that it was a mechanical jack reather than a Hyd. jack, the thump is from the spring loaded ramped drive so that when it has gone as far as it can it isn't overloaded, I'm trying to figure out a way to put a limit switch on it to stop it from doing that, it's probably designed to do it forever but it bothers me when things bounce and slam back together.

Hi;Well mine feels like it is bottoming out.I am new to this rig so lot to learn. What I referred to as a thump is a solid jolt to the seat when hitting a bump! Not sure where it is coming from.I haven't even been under it to check assume has a coil spring over shock of the type on the rear of a M/C thinking maybe can set up the spring a little?Still getting unloaded from move back here will have to seriously look at it.Plan on gong to the Skunk rally and the USCA one in Duluth so probably get plenty of advise at them!!Thanks for th hints!BOB

Moodierr Champion sends their Sidcars out with too light springs stock. My local Dealers always has to swap them out with heavier springs and Champion has not responded to requests to supply their Sidecars with heavy springs or even make them optional.

I can't remember exactly what spring was swapped on mine but I think it was 30 or 40 lbs heavier than the one Champion equips them with. BTW the Preload Cam on it is all the way up in position 5 and even with the heavy spring it will bottom at times if it is in the bottom position. That's with 50 lbs in the trunk and three Heelers up front.

It might be worth while to give Progressive a call and tell them what's going on, there's a good chance that they know what you need plus it's a good bet that the replacement springs come from Progressive, they offer different weight load springs so measure yours so you can tell them what length it is but be sure to tell them it's on the shock at the lowest position.
