Early Velorex Shock Dimensions?
Anyone have the C/L to C/L dimension for an early (15mm axle) Velorex 562 S shock? Mine came out in two pieces 🙁

I can't believe one of the many owners of a pre 2004 Velorex (15mm axled) with the original non-adjustable shock hasn't answered this request.

I think it is 11". Spring start 3" from bottom hole.
Lonnie I though you would have that in your head. LOL. BTW have seen more than one early Velorex shock come apart as described. I think that if they are allowed to overextend due to a possibly missing or a bad rubber bumper on the swingarm it will kill them in time. I had one pull apart on the way to Kitchner Ontario USCA rally years ago. Shaft came out of the threads inside the shock and out of hole then tried to go back into hole and missed mark and shaft bent. Ended up u bolting the swingarm to the frame to keep going. All I could think of was that little 15mm axle and whether it would , or how long it would, take th eabuse from being a rigid suspension. We finally dug an old shock off of who knows what out of a scrap bin at a Harley shop in g bip ..All was well and the axle did survive.
Thank you for the responses. I did read several times that one of the shocks used on a Sportster was a very close match with a CL to CL dimension of 11.5". Other than very little dampening, mine showed no signs of failure prior to removal. My rubber bumper was still intact.

Remember shock need to have no spring on bottom 3".

I just got to this post and didnt need to measure as I see it has been answered some what.
I have upgraded my axle but I think I went a little over kill. I think it is 1 1/4' trailer axle and hub rated at 1200 lbs load
I have since replaced the shock with a Hagon that was marketed as a replacement for the factory Velorex shock. The difference is like night and day. Only now do I realize how worn out the Velorex was. Feels like it went from a motorhome to a sports car in handling. Very pleased.
I am driving a rig with an early Velorx. No data plate but I think it is an early 70s model. I like the idea of replacing the shock on the car. I'm sure it would improve the ride and handling.
Checked out the Hogan web site and cannot determine which would be required. Cycleboy could you point me in the right direction? Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Mike, I did lots of searching for a replacement shock for the rig. Seems like most people modify an existing motorcycle shock or purchase a new one from Velorex in NY. Didn't want to play the guessing game modifying something and haven't heard a lot of positive stuff about the new Velorex one. Finally found a NOS (new old stock) Hagon one in a shop in the Netherlands. Little bit of an effort, but they took Paypal. With the euro conversion and shipping it was just under $200 US. Here is the link http://www.obsoletebikeparts.com/ I don't believe it is a currently manufactured shock from talking to Hagon. Was not able to locate a model number on it anywhere. Seems pretty high quality and came with a spanner wrench for adjusting preload.
