Correct set-up????????
I'm new at this sidecar stuff. I have a 1978 R100/7 BMW with 1978 Ural hack. I'm always sterring left to go straight. The toe-in is at 3/4, and the lean out is 1/4 at the top of a 2ft square. These are un-weighted measurements. There is 5/8" difference is handle bar height, with the left side lower. Am I close on these setting? I would like to take a long trip (1700 miles)but I'm concern that it may be to tiring as compare with two wheels
Quack,
reduce your toe in to 1/4". then lean the bike out some more. keep leaning until it tracks straight at the speed you want it to. usually 60-65 MPH.
set this lean with you on the bike and a passenger and/or ballast in the SC, if you haul one.
Bob has given you some good advice. There is another current thread about a harley asking the same questions.
Yeah, you cant go by the book here , just because someone told you you need 3/4" toe-in and 1/4 " lean. this has to be the seat of the pants 'set and test' method.
every bike/SC combo has different needs.what you have is a basic starting point for the lean setup...some need more, some less. some HD's use lean IN!!
Thanks for the help. I've gotten some of my info from old Hacked maz. and the Sidecar Industry Council. What is a good source of ballast, and how much should I use?
