Well I have just done about 3 hrs of internet searching on hack tires. It all started when I called the only local place that CLAMES to know sidecars. Told them I needed a tire for my hack, The guy ask what size? I said I have a Coker 500-16 on it now. The guy said that isn't the size. :O
This shop advertises as a trike and sidecar specialist But aparently I have to find a tire for them to mount. So I have a few questions.

Will a 130/90-16 (Dunlop) Work as an option for the 500-16 ?

Will a regular Front cycle tire work, or hack tires Different?

Any recomendations for long wearing hack tires ?

I'm not to interested in the whole Darkside/auto tire thing To much modification to my rig to get anything to fit.

Thanks

The Coker 500/16 is a vintage replacement tire for the early HD models. The 130/90/16 is the later metric replacement for these. Many bikes use the 130/90/16 tire. The front tires have a less aggressive tread pattern than the rear tires. Some use a rear tire on their hack if it has brakes, mounting it backwards for more braking traction.
I am not a sidecar brake affecionado so I use front tires on the hack. The price difference vs mileage obtained doesn't work out in my favor.

Thank you
What kind of mileage do you get on the 130/90-16
I got my hack used with the Coker already well used on it.
I put at between 12000 and 19000 on the Coker

Coker DOES sell tires that are 500 16 they also sell a 500r16. BIG difference the latter is a steel radial that will fit older Harley frames. Mine is just over ten k miles and has about 3/32 tread over the wear bars I have a Dunlop on another wheel as a spare and it half worn out at two thousand miles. The guy may be a expert but does not know his history. The 500 16 size was stock on hd bikes not that long ago

Harley tires are 5.10 X 16 same thing as a 130 X 16.

Another tire company I have just dealt with is Universal tire,Hershey Pa. I run car tires on all three wheels, as for longevity on the hack ,the Mabor tire has 47k on and probably will go 10 to15k more. Putting an mc tire on a hack has no benefit. Universal # 1 800 231-9980 or www.universaltire.com

Do you have these tires on a Harley rig? Reason I ask is 16 inch car tires are hard to find as there are not many choices. I know the rep for Drag Specialties that lives in the same town I do and he said Michelin came out with motorcycle tire that gets a lot better mileage. I have a 02 ultra with a HD sidecar and the hack and front tires last quite a long time it is just the rear that wears so quick. I will say the Dunlap E3 does not last me any longer then a D 402 on the rear.

Ive spent a lot of hours researching car tire options. On a hack it makes a lot of sence. Problem is on an HD the rim size is hard to fit, and there is NO room in the fenderwell for the wider sizes. The few choices I have found would require me to alter the sproket spacing, replace the swingarm, and get a costom fender.

46u I ride a triumph bonnie/ watsonian chair.I did put a motocross tire on rear for snow/winter riding and that certainly is not the answer. In snow it was no better than marginal and wet macadam was horrible. A definate plus for auto tires , surfaced after riding this past winter for after about 15 miles or so I thought a was riding on black ice, instead after inspection I discovered the rear tire had picked up a roofing nail and i still could continue about 10 mile to destination at limited speed riding on a stronger sidewall. I have experienced front and rear mc tire failure, I can tell ya, hang on to your boots cause your going for a ride .As for this hd fitting, I will research, get back on this board if any worthy input.

Bikermike I paged thru universals catalogue and they list at least 4 or more manufacturing sources in this range , realizing your limitations ,give these guys a call. While i was there the sales man was explaining about custom hand made tires in runs of half a dozen so there well aware of clearence applications and hopefully can help

Well I put a 130/90 16 on the hack and I'll tell you it feels good. I'll see what it gets on milage. I only went with the Dunlap becaws it was at the dealership and I hate down time.
Still researching for a better rear tire.

I just put 3 Excelsior 500/r/16's on a'07flt/tle tiers went on easy 1'st side of the mags then the fun began. they work great things are a little closer but no problems. I had the hack wheel mounted I was told it was rusted pretty bad the tire didn't seat properly (basket ball) lots of Dawn after getting it broke off the bead. I took the rig on a ride to a local lake with some dirt roads tiers held the road much better than m/c tiers

Being I have the older wide belt more then likely they would not fit on mine. With the weight I put in mine glade I have it. Next tire I put on the rear will be one of the ones that the Drag Specialties rep recommended that just came out not long ago. I will say the E3 does not last any longer if as long as the D402 on the rear! I am finding out the Dunlop s do not seem to last as long as they use to.
