Christmas lights?
The Toy Run is coming soon- does anyone know if there's a way to run tree lights from a battery in my trunk?
One way is to visit a RV store. There you can pick lights that run off 12 volts DC. My favort being chilly pepper lights. I had first thought of just using normal lights but even if the lights don't care if the voltage is AC or DC (thay don't) I am not sure of the current draw of a AC string of lights that are used for 110VAC but are ran on 12VDC.
Bob- found out I need something called an inverter. Someone here is going to donate the use of one, plus a car battery. Going to K-Mart tomorrow!
I have also done this using lights that run on two dry cell batteries. What I did was as they are designed to run on 3 Volts use 4 in series off of the bikes battery.

I use Walmart brand clear lights or muti color lights that run off 4 aaa batteries. I fasten them to the bike and sidecar using clear clicp that won't affect my paint. Easy on, easy of switch. I place the switch boxes in the sidecar and turn them on. It's the greatest thing and everyone wanders how i wired it in! when your finish, take them off tilnext time.
Gramps..........cost= $3. to $5. ea. The unit has about 25 lights on them.
gramps dothese lights come complete with the batteries etc. and you just hook up to the bike???
If thats he case it sounds like the simpliest way to go ernie,
no fussing with your electrical system of hooking anything up to your battery.
after Xmas just take them off!!!!!!!!!!!
Lenny,
They do not come with batteries.
Just pick up a pack at a dollar General store for the amount of units you buy. Attach they to your bike or sidecar rig, push the switch and you are good to go! After Christmas, remove lights and store of next year. I use velcro and black electrical ties to attach these to me rigs. During the Holidays, ride alot at night and the rigs just shines. Because these have very low watts, it does not not affect oncoming traffic. It does not drain your primary battery. These are available now at Walmart, Kmart.
Gramps...........
Thanks
Gramps, went to K-Mart but didn't see that kind of light. There're so many knowledgeable and helpful people there I wish I had known to ask. (NOT) I'll go back and look again. The WalMart here is so big it scares me. Guess I turned out to be a small-town kind of guy after all these years.
Jay- how would I hook the lights right up to my battery?
