Car tire for BMW K bike ?
I was just looking on the Tire Rack website and see the smallest 17" tire they offer is a 195/40/17 Is that what some folks are doing on the K bikes...Just using a narrow car tire on the stock rim ?
That sure would be cheeper than buying a special rim....
Thanks
Joel
I don't believe that tire would fit a cycle - too wide. Claude Stanley builds an adapter that lets you fit a Centerline brand dragster wheel to a K-bike rear drive. That is what he did for my K-Monster. It takes a 145 width tire. Much less expensive than a whole custom-built wheel.

We have well over thirty of these types of conversions out there at this time. The most commonly run tire is a 165/80x15. (165r15). Feedback says average milage with this tire is around 20,000 before replacement. Not bad for a tire that runs around 60 bucks or so. Worst case heard of was 16k which was on a k1200lt/ Hannigan pulling alarge trailer much of the time in the hot south west.
To keep costs down we have not used the centerline wheel like Sarge mentioned for a while now. It is an option though.

Hello Joel,
We have been placing a 195/45/17 on BMW R1150R ROCKSTER and on K1200RS.
Even 175/55/17 is possible
Look at our website: www.lbs-zijspantechniek.nl or: www.lbs-sidecars.com
I'm neither pro or con on CT on bikes but you need to be aware that the bead on a CT is total different than a MC tire which means the rim is different also, some rims will accept a CT quite nicely others don't and require very hi air pressure to seat them (#100 +lbs), go here and ask questions and look around, be informed.
