Hay guys an gals. I am not sure if i have air in my forks or not so i want to replace the schroder valves as a start. I canΒ  use a small bicycle pump that puts in a couple of pounds for each pump. Is the schroder valve off the shelf or is it something different? 1995 GL1500SE

Sometimes there is a reading sometimes not

Better check the recommended psi in those forks. I think it is very low. If you put in too much air you can blow the seals.

Given what I experienced when I brought my air pump over, I would get one with the flexible pigtail to get it attached.Β  Also, learn to release the pump quickly otherwise all the air you just put in will be allowed to leak out again.Β  AMHIK

@thane-lewis This is why i bought a cycle hand pump. You just screw it on to the valve and every pump by hand puts in 2 psi. So its easy to control and takes up no space.

Technically.... it's Pi in each fork legΒ

3.14159 psi in the Left fork leg, and 3.14159 psi in the Right fork leg .

If you remove the hose joining the two fork legs together, you can get fairly precise psi in each legΒ

But Mother Honda had hired some former employee from H-D, and in attempting to make their job on the assembly line easier, they suggested adding the air hose to connect Left fork leg to Right fork leg.

And, given that same former H-D employee couldn't comprehend what the numbers to the right of the decimal point meant, he just rounded it all down to an even 6 psi used for the combination of both fork legs.

If only Mother Honda had hired a physicist to put air in those fork legs, we would still be enjoying Pi today.

New valves fitted and left fork 3.7. Unable to get a pressure reading on the right fork, so for the moment i used the same number of pumps and called it good. No sign of leaky forks so i will remove the right valve again and have a look with a torch for debris. i noted that the round cap that acts as a cover over the valve actually had a piece of another valve cap stuck in the hole. This i was able to prize out and screw the cap back on, and yes i can try a few more valves if need be =)
