a good choice of sidecar for my 2011 HD Road King
Hello ,
Besides my present rig (1995 Electra Glide Harley Davidson originally equipped with a HD tub ) , I bought a 2011 HD that I contemplate to equip with a sidecar also . The HD sidecar is OK but lacks ease of access and does not offer rain/sun protection .
Our intend , my wife and I , is to use this new bike/rig to travel extensively throughout the USA , either this year or the next .
If money was not the object , which make and model of sidecar would you recommand us to buy ?
Anticipated thanks for your advices .
Best
Jean
Here's what I'd buy for a HD. http://www.dmcsidecars.com/Sidecars/Legend%20sidecar-by-Champion.htm I've seen a few with custom 2 tone paintjobs and extra chrome trim on 'em that looked outstanding.
Thanks Daryl ,
I will contact them and inquire about availability of a roof .

No roof on the Legend sidecar.

Damned !!! that's what I suspected !
Thanks
Jean
One of the Hannigan models may be your best choice for an easy entry, top grade sidecar with a top.

Check out Hannigan. We put a Hannigan Classic on my wife's bike '05 Electraglide) so she can take our dogs with us on trips. The whole top section opens so the dogs can hop in easily, would work great for people too. We got the convertable top for it, so weather won't be a problem. We like it so much that I just ordered a Hannigan Astro Sport sidecar for my bike(2000 HD Road Glide). It also has a tilt-up top section, and has a removable hard top.
The used California Sidecar Friendship II that I recently bought has a convertible top. Mine actually was previously installed on a HD Ultra Classic. Not sure they still have 'em for sale, but they're certainly available used. The Frienship III is bigger, roomier, squarer looking and has a top too. be sure to check out liberty - they make VERY good units
regardless of what sidecar you get, be sure to check out putting a harley trike tree on the bike - guys will say its not needed - i say b&^^%t if you want to ride all day its essential. i have a liberty tree - its VERY nice but twice what a hd tree costs..... it makes a long day really nice - the factory tree will kill your wrists and shoulders unless you are really "buf"
there are some european hd look sidecars that have roofs - cant find the link just now. but one model has a 1.5 times wide tub.
the new hd bikes will hold a car tire on the rear real easy - its really nice to run a car tire on the rear if you can - smooth and lasts a loooong time
the 11 models still could be gotten with a hd sidecar even though you cant get one anymore now - however you CAN get the mount kit - the new hd frames need a stiffner under the frame. once you get a sidecar found you should compare mount kits and get the factory bits that the new bikes use - safety first - also note that non hd makes often skip some of the other hd safety items like the rollover switch etc - you might want to consider that. again its up to you.
i think its really worth a 30 tooth sprocket on the trans if you can swing it - better first gear handling.
and if bux are no object a baker reverse would be real nice.

The Hannigan would no doubt fill the needs you stated. We could also build you a sidecar to suit your needs with a rigid or removable hardtop or a fabric top. See the link to our site below and give me a call if you wish.
a rag top for my hd tub would be really worth it to me for my wifes comfort....
so far i have seen ONE and the guy didnt know who made it.

Just read again your message : I really appreciate all the advices that you give , really .
I was wondering about the trike tree but now I have to get into this seriously .
Again thank you
Jean
If one feels the need for a rollover switch with an aftermarket sidecar, remember this is attached to your Harley, not to the sidecar. Sidecar brand doesn't matter.
