Hey all, new to the site. My son is helping me with the internet forum.

I bought an 80's(??) model Velorex sidecar. I am trying to find the best way to mount it to my 1996 FLHT. It is a universal 4pt mounting system. Running boards and hard saddle bags seem to be in the way.

Scavenged google tryng to find pictures. Haven't found much yet on FLHT setup. Does anyone have any good pictures of this setup? Thanks!

Don't put this 154# sidecar on your 800+# Harley.
These earlier Velorex sidecars were set up for middleweight bikes and the suspension will not support a full dress late model Harley.
Sub-framing will be needed to mount any sidecar but a Harley car to this bike and I know of no one who will make one to mount a light Velorex.
They are great sidecars but like all things they have their limitations.
With an ideal ratio of 2/3rds bike to 1/3rd sidecar you would need about 150# of ballast (minimum) in the sidecar at all times to keep all three wheels on the ground and the suspension would be bottoming out constantly.
The suspension can be upgraded on the early Velorex cars with the 15mm axle (such as yours) but your dresser is still too big for the sidecar.

Lonnie is right. The Velorex without extensive modifications is not suitable for such a large bike. Note that Lonnie (North West Sidecar) has probably mounted more Velorex sidecars than anyone on this forum.

Hey guys, thanks for your input.

My dad is stubborn and went ahead with the side car as he has $ invested in it. It's not a permanent thing as it all unclamps but he just had to try it out to bring him back to "the good ol days" when he used to side car every day. He is going to sandbag the car when unloaded to help with weight. I'll have to post some pictures of the mounting project when I get them.

The tire is really dry rotted and needs another one. The tire size is 120/90/16, tubeless of course. The cast rim is roughly 2.5" wide and the tire bulges out quite a lot. Is this normal or is this the wrong size tire for that wheel? Thanks in advance!

Cast rim? Are you sure this is a Velorex? They all use spoked wheels and tube tires.
Got a picture of this rig?

We were told it was Velorex, have no idea if it really is or not. No markings whatsoever on it.

This is an early California Companion sidecar.
At 150# it is very light for a late Electra Glide. A bunch of ballast is needed to get it up to an optimum 1/3rd of the bikes weight.
The torsional suspension may or may not be adequate with the heavy bike. In good condition it was OK with older Big Twins.

I'd still recommend a larger/heavier sidecar.
