My rig has an interesting story behind it. I got hit head on by an uninsured suv in oct of 09 while riding my vtx retro, I lost my left leg above the knee so riding two wheel bikes seemed out of the question for me. I looked at a real nice ural t up in boxboro ma but my wife wanted me to wait till the mortgage was paid off before i put that kind of money on a new bike. I didn't feel like waiting two and a half years to get a rig so I decided to make my own rig. I had an old kz650 sitting in the shed for years so I decided to use that for my mule, then I bought a california sidecar from a guy down the cape and I found a used klicktronic shifter online. I got the bike running again and a buddy of mine did the install on the hack and I installed the klicktronic shifter and the rest is history. The rig is a little underpowered but is fine for me riding alone. I will probably put a bigger bike on the rig in a year or two. I've grown very attached to this rig in the past 8 months I'm glad I built it.
BTW, that yamaha super tenere is a nice bike, that would be great hooked up to a dmc sidecar.
Head on collision-horrendeous. Glad you made it out alive. I'm in the insurance business and we see this all the time. 90% or better of the time a bike and car are involved in a collision the car driver is at fault but that's not much solace when you are injured or worse paralyzed. I got hit in the rear end something like 3 times on street bikes, once by a paralegal assistant, back in the 1990's. Fortunately the injuries were extremely minor. Very sorry about your leg.
I bet the KZ650 is a super powerhouse compared to the Ural 750 twin. A tenere with a side car would be a blast for the more advanced rider. I'm not there yet. Will try to pop off some more miles tomorrow and Thursday evenings. Supposed to be clear with no rain. Practice, practice, practice.....
Hope to hook up soon.

... I don't know about the others but the Ural makes street riding about as entertaining as dirt bike riding in a hare scramble.....
Hi col! And welcome! Hey, are you carrying ballast in your sidecar??
NEVER MIND!! I just read your other post re: 75lbs.
Jena & I both recommend a sidecar training class if one is available in your area.

Hi Clem that sounds like a plan. BTW, I'll be at a car show in brooklyn on Saturday at the corner of 169 and 101. Just look for the red 59 chevy pickup and I'll be close by. We will definatly have to get all three of us together for a ride sometime soon.
There is a training class up here in Massachusetts. I emailed them but have not heard back.
Hope to get a ride in today after work. Weather has been lousy but then again, it's New England.
Ural named Squirrel Willimantic CT.
Hi wrench, nice area out that way. Do you ever go to the vanilla bean?
Couldn't fine my way back to this page. I go by there all the time but haven't stop in years. Always end up at We- like- kit Ice Cream on rte. 97
I love that place Where did you buy your ural, boxboro? I have a 1200 sportster on my rig now Plenty of torque.
Sorry I didn't get back to you,I'm in Vermont it's pouring rain and your my entertainment haha. I did buy my Ural from Ural of New England. So far there service has been great. They replace the clutch lever twice this time 2014 upgrade and windshield I paid a little extra upgraded after market windshield. I also have BMW K 1200LT big difference. I can't fine any rig riders in my area. I'm very new to side cars only one year this July. I'm doing very good with it but would like a rider course. I'll be70 in Oct. so need all the Help I can get. Your rig is a sportster ? How does that handle ?
The sportster does ok, my first rig was an old kz650 which was underpowered. I put the sportster rig together a year and a half ago. So far so good. I use an electronic shifter on it because I'm a left leg amputee. The bike has plenty of power with 1200cc and a screaming eagle stage one kit.
There is a sidecar rally in central ma near palmer in a few weeks. We should take a ride out for a couple of hours. Let me know if you want yo meet up in ct and ride up. We can take backroads into sturbridge and then run rt20 the rest of the way. The rally is at camp stanica and is on the26th through the 28th but you can go in on saturday for 5 bucks so it sounds worth while.
At this time sounds good.Thank you for your service, It's great that our men and women that servred their country with modern technology can do what they love.
No, I lost it in a head on collision with a distracted driver in an suv. I agree about the technology for our vets being a blessing though.
It's getting worse all the time with distracted drivers. I don't fly my car but one day I had too coming down Rte.66 in Columbia.
