Sidecars in the Smokies

I saw this in the latest issue of the magazine but couldn't find a thread on this site.
Checked the Iron Horse lodge website - it says they still have availability. BUT there is also a Gold Wing Rally the dates so facilities *may* go away relatively quickly.
Anyone else thinking about going?
Thanks and Merry/Happy Duncan

We will be there, didn't hear anything about a Gold Wing rally during that time frame. do you have any info about it
WEIRD, I went to Iron Horse site and it shows GWRRA event for same weekend, but I can't find anything at GWRRA that matches

I just talked to Iron Horse, looks like it's just a group of GWRRA riders out of Ga getting together while we are there.

Ironhorse had been holding cabins and rooms for the Goldwing riders until January 15. They've now released all the rooms and cabins that haven't been rented by the GWRA folk.
Y'all may want to get your reserves in soon.
Duncan
Just made our reservations today for a cabin.
Registered, and campsite reserved. See y'all there. Pray for the same weather we had last year.

we have the same campsite we had last year reserved, see you there.
I plan to hit the Dragon this year, I haven't run it with the sidecar

AJ1200:
Wife and I will be in Savannah for her 2d cousin's wedding weekend of April 22. I've been trying to convince her it would be best if we rode sidecar down instead of flying, but no luck so far. Seems unreasonable to me to fly back north on 4/23 just to turn right around and ride to NC a couple of days later. Besides, IIRC there are some great roads in North GA I'd like to try on 3 wheels.
I also plan on doing the Dragon and Cherohala. Probably a little slower than when I was on two wheels a few years back.

yeah north Ga is full of great riding. we really enjoy taking the back roads over to Helen when we are in the area.
maybe we can get a few of us together and put together a nice ride loop to encompass the Dragon and Cherohala to include a stop for lunch and maybe stop at the water fall at the bottom of the Parkway
Ace,
How long is that loop? Could you post a link to a Google map?
That route looks like a pretty taxing ride but it could be a lot of fun. I agree that the four hour time is pretty optimistic if you figure in rest stops and sight seeing. Ace, is that the route you were thinking about? I didn't see a waterfall on the map but then maybe those just aren't shown.
A whole flock of sidecars on the twisty bits will sure tick off a lot of sport bikers.

I will have to look it up again but that looks about right for the loop
Hmm I forgot putting those 2 together makes for a long ride
I haven't done them together since I added the car
you have to plan to do the Dragon on a weekday to avoid the big crouds. maybe Thursday

Al: Here's a link to a map that might be useful. You thinking about making the trek down from MN? Be nice to see y'all.

AJ: I'm likely to arrive sometime Thursday and do the loop on Friday. Weather depending of course. Want to fit in the Moonshiner 28 too.
My son and his girlfriend [on bikes, probably their RTs] are planning on joining me Thursday for the weekend. He's ridden the Dragon and Cherohala before but she hasn't.
Duncan
Duncan,
Yes, we are coming. Room is booked and we're planning to tag on a visit with our daughter after the rally. Maybe in Chapel Hill where she lives or maybe someplace in between if we can find something interesting to do. Will bring both the Martini kit and the Margarita kit with a long extension cord.
It looks like NCDave's map includes almost all the the Moonshiner 28 although it does some at the beginning and some at the end of the ride.
I did "The Dragon" last year on the way to Sidecars in The Smokies. Sadly, I did it by mistake while driving the Honda Pilot and towing the rig ;^). Strangely, there is no t-shirt that says "I did the dragon by mistake"

I don't have any objections to doing Friday as the long ride.
My brother in law will be there with us again this year, most likely with his girlfriend, he rides a 1800
28 moonshiner is a nice ride, we passed on the Dragon last year as we have done it to the point of being more work than fun
I was just thinking I needed my bragging rights for doing it on the rig,,,,But if I don't I won't loose any sleep over it
