Why the WA 3 wheeler license?
I guess I just don't get it. It is not like I see so many sidecars up here that they could have been a real problem. Is there a "Washington mothers against sidecar driving", that was trying to outlaw sidecars and this law was put in effect to pacify them?
We would like to let some good friends test ride our hack. It is a lot of fun and most have never had a chance to drive one. Without the proper endorsement our insurance will definitely not cover them in an accident.
No insurance can be purchased to my knowledge that covers unlicensed drivers driving on public roads.
I am new to this, but so far it seems to me that these vehicles are very safe as long as they are driven within the recommended speed limit.
Much safer than a motorcycle. If you go faster than the recommended speed limit they have issues. Just like any other vehicle.
So why the special license? It can't help promote the sport. Perhaps you don't agree.
I'd like to know what folks think about it. I hope this isn't a forbidden subject. If it is I am only asking out of ignorance not malice.
In our case (Tennessee) the three wheel endorsement (restriction) was set up for trike drivers, but of course sidecars are also affected.
The intent was really to restrict those who road tested on three wheelers from automatically being given a traditional two wheel endorsement without separate two wheel testing.
A competency thing, if you follow. I actually think it is a wise move, at least in our case.
EDIT: One clarification. A two wheel endorsement does allow the driver to operate a three wheeler. A three wheel endorsement limits the driver to three wheeler only. Don't know how it is in your area, but that's the deal here.
Smile anyway!
Go into the Legislative Watch archives and you will find a whole lot of input on this law.
Have a comfortable chair, it may take a while.

And when reading the legislative watch stuff you will find out that many there think it is a total rip off...You will also find that some do not think so but if you read with enough detail you will find that they are totally completely wrong!! Money can drive a lot of people in a lot of different directions.....shadow dancers are good at ahat they do.
