Anybody that made it last year to the USCA 29th National rally and was able to see Dale's collection of motorcycles that he has at the museum this may have been your last chance to see this collection of bikes some with sidecars.

From another list that I belong,to the wheels through time museum is going to be closing around the end of August this year 2008 and as I understand it Dale plans to move west and also plans to sell off about 150 antique and vintage motorcycles.

That's a bummer. Anyone who is somewhere close by should make an effort to get there before Dale moves.

Man,if this is fact it's going to put a big fly in the pudding for a bunch of us. Were planning a trip this September to Dills Gap and Maggie Valley..and on down to Florida.

Think I'm going to jump out on their website to see check this out...remember when he moved from Illinois to Maggie Valley.

Well, hdrghack you got some good information, the move is for real and we're going to have to make different plans now. Got the following this morning:

**************************
Sheldon,

As new objectives and greater potential lie on the horizon, Wheels Through
Time will be relocating out of North Carolina by the beginning of 2009.
Much consideration has been given to the museum's loyal patrons and its
economic impact in Western North Carolina in this matter, however, this
relocation is necessary in order for the museum to further fulfill its
mission to educate and inspire a diverse audience as to the history of
American Transportation for generations to come.

As of May 15, we are adjusting our hours to 9a.m.-5p.m., Friday-Sunday. Our last day of operation in NC will be August 31, 2008.

When were you planning on coming through Maggie Valley?

Sheldon,
The real sad part is the bikes from that collection that will be sold.

pretty much every bike in that museum runs regardless of the age of it

Dale raced an early 1911 Indian at the Barber museum.

I believe last year Dale tried to break the record for miles in a 24 hour period i believe on a 38 Knucklehead

Oh, I hear everything you're saying. I was there 2 years ago and that place is something else...thus my reason for putting it on our trip this year. Have been telling the guys about it for 2 years now.

When we were there in '06 a fellow made a comment about a 1918 that was sitting there...Dale pulled it out from the wall kicked it twice and it fired. They had 2-3 bikes in that back 'replica of an early motorcycle shop' under various stages of repair. Dale indicated the bikes would be running in less than 2 weeks..I couldn't believe.

But you know the one thing that I just can imagine...packing that place up to move. OMG!!! And I thought I had a lot of stuff to move when I moved back home to Texas. !!!!!! Ain't no way..!!!

I strongly suspect that if you make a firm reservation, Dale (or somebody) would take a small group through in early Sept. That's when the auction is going on, anyway. Couldn't hurt to ask.

Folks like to ride through these parts, and Deals Gap and some other places have figured out how to cash in, but most places- including Asheville and Maggie Valley- just don't like getting feathers ruffled. Maggie Valley just didn't want to help WTT out any.
I heard he's moving to Tennessee, but that's just a rumor.
