I watched a couple of threads go downhill lately and when things turn to Brand Bashing it is time for a reminder that the USCA is a club for everyone. We don't care WHAT you ride, we care that you have or are interested in sidecars and THAT you ride.

Your friendly
President

Thank you very much for your post here. I certainly agree. There are many good motorcycles and we should all focus on making them work properly with sidecars.

Brand? If it has 3 wheels I will always look and lust. If it has 2 wheels, I will look and lust. Even if it has 4 wheels or 6 wheels or 8 wheels, I will at least look. Tracks, skids, rails, I guess I just like machines. If it blows my hair back (whats left) I like it all the more. I learned a long time ago that there is always more than 1 solution to a problem. Some work for me but not for you. That does not make it wrong, just different. While I may not care to own Brand X motorcycle, I would never pass up an opportunity to test drive one. If you ask my opinion, I'll give it to you, but I will keep my opinion to myself if you don't. There are too many people with thin skin out there in the world and life is to short to be stirring up ****.

Joyce asked me to post this in light of this discussion. It was printed in the last issue of Hack'd Magazine.

>>>> Sterotypes, cashews and mixed nuts
Did anyone ever notice how ones who ride different machines seem to fit into a sterotype? Years ago someone wrote an article on this and I felt it was quite amusing but it did hold a lot of truth. Think of it…Harley riders with many dollars worth of leather on and a thirty dollar helmet. They seem to wear the leather on and off the bike too. Then there are the sport bike (crotchrocket) types who ride with shorts, tank tops , sneakers and a four hundred dollar helmet. At a rally you may see the BMW types who come in an Aerostitich suit or the Ducati riders who will show up in full leathers dyed red. The Goldwingers are known for wearing matching jackets and helmets with the ever present headset mic projecting in front of their mouth…they talk softly when on the bike if you speak to them so as not to blat the ears off their color coordinated passenger. There are others for sure if we dwell on this but that is not my point to make. Sidecarists are, for sure , a mixed breed. Years back at the Cook Forest USCA National (’93 I think) I was really taken off guard by the comment of my solo bike friend who came along. He was totally amazed that so many variations of rider ‘types’ would be at this rally. He was more amazed that sidecarist tend to talk more about their sidecars than the power unit that they are pulling them with. Kind of neat situation isn’t it?
At one time I had a great love for mixed nuts. In the containers that the mixed nuts came in it was always a real treat to pick out the cashews. These were the creams of the crop in my book. The other nuts were okay but for me the goal; was to pick out as many cashews as possible....yumm. A cashew man I was....if it wasn't a cashew it was second rate.
One day while in a store I was walking toward 'nut section' when in the distance I noticed something that was unfamilar to me. As I drew closer this site began to come into focus clearer and clearer...... could it be.....is this for real? This site could not be taken lightly. I stood in awe as my mind raced with wild anticipation. The beating of my heart threatened to explode though my chest as I ever so slowly reached forth a shaking hand toward the object. I knew it was neither a mirage nor a dream as my hand touched the cool glass container that was plainly labeled CASHEWS ! Yes...oh YES!! Cashews and only cashews....No more mixed nuts....No more picking though the walnuts and peanuts and brazil nuts and all of the other stuff . This was it...an honest to goodness jar of just cashews.....Life was indeed good....the days of mixed nuts were over. Today was the beginning of a new life for me. Me and my cashews...alone at last. No more mixed nuts !!
Upon returning home with my newly found treasure I flopped on the couch. I felt as though nothing in this world could ever take the present satisfaction from me.
Pure ambrosia..pure delight...it was only my cashews and me..alone at last.
After a couple of hours of sleep that night I awoke with a bad case of heartburn. The symptoms could not be ignored as the discomfort deep in my chest worse and worse. Minutes became hours. The battle within me raged on and on with no relief in sight as I drifted in and out of consciousness. My body cried for sleep but it was not being realized due to the discomfort within. Finally in my state of delirium sleep mercifully overpowered me.
The light of the sun was breaking through the eastern sky as I slowly awoke.
It was a new day half opened eyes slowly adjusted to the light within my darken room. The worst was over although as I saw the three empty cans of cashews flashbacks of the night before attempted to take control of my senses. I looked away from them quickly and these feeling seemed to subside. Yes..It was a new day. Thoughts of the night before were not clear but in a strange way were also so very real. The experience was a only a haze but still was attempting to

Stereotyping/generalizing riders/bikes is a bit childish. It does not deserve any comments and has no place in this public forum.

Kuarl,
Thanks for the complement! The bike is a 2003 BMW R1200CLC with a 2006 Hannigan sidecar. The bike is a loaded touring bike with all of the bells and whisles and makes for an excellent bike for a sidecar. The engine is the tried and true boxer engine that will most likely out last the entire rig. Lots of low end torque and easy to ride. Could not be happier with the Hannigan sidecar that includes disc brake and electoronic tilt. The only thing that I am looking at currently is either a leading link front end or some other arrangement. I think that the rig will be a dedicated sidecar rig. I do have a motorcycle for my need for speed.
Your rig is nice!

Awwww geeeeez. It might be a bit childish, but it's not illegal. It does belong on this forum if relevant and not abusive. That's the whole point of forums - remember? Freedom of speech and all that?

Geeeeeez. Stop being so quick to take offense.

We don't have to agree with others opinions - but they certainly are entitled to them.

If the stress of reading forums that upset or offends you - perhaps you should go out for a ride and unwind.

Maybe switch to decaf?

I don't need to spend my time in bashing or generalizing. I just express myself with highly sensitive, but true gut-wrenching opinions. Yup, I know they are true as God told me so when he spoke to me last night.....an' who amongst you can really argue with the voice of God? He don't lie, you know! 🙂

God said to me that all sidecars are equally fun to own and drive, but he prefers his Ural over the others, due to the 2 year warranty guarantee. Although he loves the Patrols, Gear Ups, and Tourists, he told me that the Troyka is still the pretty one in the group, in his opinion. Nice to hear his personal opinions as I have similar ones too, and I just happen to own a Ural Troyka like he has. Whooooo! Hooooooo!

Well, no time to get nasty in bashing other makes and models, as God says it is more constructive to use your time in enjoying sidecars and not picking apart the silly variances between them and their kookie owners or trying to figure out just who can shout the longest and loudest over silly arguments on expertise and such.

God told me to enjoy my Troyka instead and when I get there in his neighborhood to check it out sometime in the future, to just be sure to wear my safety equipment, as the gold bricks are a bit slick in inclimate weather. He said to load the Troyka properly, watch the tip lines, and to make sure the tires are properly inflated. Lots more he was gonna' tell me, but he had to go settle somthing with someone who was arriving on a HD with loud pipes. No problems with the HD brand not being invited up there with him, but the neighborhood is inclined to limit them to use during thunderstorms. Go figure! Probably a zoning restriction of some sort, but God didn't have time to explain.

Well, maybe God will get back with me later, but I gotta' run at the moment, as the grandchild wants to play in Grandpa's sidecar. Verooom! Verooom! Verooom! You know, maybe God really blessed me with a small piece of heaven right here on earth when he let me buy my Ural Troyka.

Wait, maybe he cursed me instead, as I am now on my fifth review of the same Bob The Builder tape and I still have one more day of the grandkids. Not sure if my brain will last the weekend. Well, at least it ain't no purple dino or purple Smurf. That would be pushing the limit. 🙂
Adios,
Huey

Sometimes we all are guilty of not knowing the difference between good honest expression's of constructive criticism. It is a wonderful thing to communicate the differences in a positive manner. Communications turn sour when one communicator is not trying to be positive but to prove a point at any cost.

My motto is to have the person that I am talking to feel good about the conversation! What does this have to do with sidecars?

When talking with each other or the public, be positive!
