Want to add a velorex 562 to my '86 wing
I have been toying with the idea of adding a SC to my wing. my wife likes to ride , but gets motion sick after about 50 miles and I'm thinking a SC will keep us on the road a little longer with fewer stops. I want to make sure the Velorex is for me because I'm new at this ( not riding) , but a SC.
Any thoughts?
😉
Maybe if we knew what area you lived in you would be able to hook up with someone from the same area that has a rig and see if your wife would be able to ride a longer distance with fewer stops. To go the time and energy of adding a side car and find out that it did not reduce the original motion sickness would frustrate me.
I'm in Western North Carolina . Just west of Asheville. Would be glad to hook up with someone with a SC rig. Thanks for the idea
The nice thing about sidecars is you can give your passenger Dramamine, and if they get drowsy they won't end up falling off and sleeping on the side of the road. 🙂
I assume that you have read the archives re: the 562, - weight ratio - ease of entry etc. as passenger comfort is a serious consideration especially if you intend to travel any distance.
Check the map on this site: http://www.sidecar.com/themap.asp for the USCA Rep in your area, perhaps he can be of assistance.
There is free info on driving a sidecar at: http://www.sidecar.com/links3.asp

Driving a Sidecar Outfit (Whitehorse Press) is another good source.
I think you and your wife would have a lot of fun with a sidecar, but do some research so you have a positive experience. Remember - sidecars are not motorcycles. 🙂 You will have to learn a whole different set of driving skills - That's what makes them so addicting. 🙂
Good luck with your quest.

I wouldn't recommend any of the Velorex sidecars for your '86 Wing. The last Wing we mount any of them to is the 1983 and those need considerable ballast. The GL's have gotten much heavier after that and the Velorex has had many improvements and is also somewhat heavier but the heaviest Velorex (565) is still just a little over 180#.
Most sub-frame mount vendors won't even sell you a later GL to Velorex sub-frame.
The Velorex sidecar is a fine unit but aren't largeenough to fit the big Touring bikes.
BTW: I am a Velorex dealer.

what would you recommend other than a Hannigan?
It would depend upon the need for weather protection, passengers physical condition and abilities, whether for short haul or long distance touring and your budget limitations.
An affordable good fit open sidecar is the Kenna Standard. Motorvation also has some good choices. CSC and Champion have options although they both are leaningheavily toward the trike conversion market and some sidecar customers have had service problems with them of late. Hannigan has more choices of covered sidecars.
Shop and compare, there are owners of all these on this site who can tell you their opinions and the upside and frailties of many marques and their manufacturers.
Look for quality, service and after sale technical support for the most satisfying purchase experience.
