For all intents and purposes The War to End All Wars was over on this date in 1918. President Wilson asked for and got a resolution to create Armistice Day in 1926, honoring the end of the war and the men and women who fought. It wasn't until 1938 that it was made an official national holiday. It took until 1954 to change the name to Veteran's Day, a much more fitting tribute. Sadly, WWI wasn't the war that ended all wars and even today we have brave men and women fighting in some pretty nasty parts of the world.'

I'm sure we have a lot of veteran's and maybe some active duty folks in the sidecar world. The one I know best is Dean Hutson. I guess Dean is a reserve Col. now and I know that he's still called on to do training and sometimes to prove just how good a shot he is. Some of us get Dean's notes to home about what he's doing and where he is when he's on duty and can write. When he's not on duty, he's still on duty with the Grandview, MO. police. I believe he's Deputy Chief. If I ever got in a really bad spot, Dean's the guy I'd call. Usually, I send him a personal note on Veteran's Day but maybe I can get some of you to join me in thanking Dean for his service as a representative of all those who also serve.

Dean, thanks. Thanks also to all the brave men and women who serve and who I don't know. I hope you all get to ride a sidecar rig some day. ;^)

I went to the park today where there was a gathering of veterans.
I missed the ceremony but as I was partaking of the free lunch,
rice and chili, I saw an old man in a wheelchair go by. He wore a cap that proclaimed him a ww2 veteran. Considering where I was and his obviously
Asian face, I would bet that he was one of the last of the Nisei.
Many of them were from this part of the island. Heros all.
