Velorex Rear Running Light Question
For Velorex drivers or other knowledgables. The 1981 Velorex 562 I was able to get, had a 1156 bulb in the rear running light. It is far to bright, and I'm sure that is the wrong bulb. I have semi-reliable information that the correct bulb is a 1073, but hey, why don't I come here and get the right skinny.

This is my #2 post but I have lurked here from time to time and picked up some very good info. A quick recap... In #1 I had asked you all for suggestions for a 1990 Harley Low Rider FXRS. Hack'n, Lance 65 and others suggested a Velorex. I agreed, it looked like a good fit, and I finally found one at Palmyra, Nebraska. My riding bud and I hit the road a brought her home to the 'burb of Kansas City.
A fairly irritating scrape on the lower fender, but basically serviceable. Time goes by. I learned the very basics for install and learning to drive, after 50 years on 2 wheels. The windscreen streamlined to 6", and the final touch, my seamstress lady cut down the tonneau cover to fit. Finally, after 13 months, the sidecar project was finished.
It lasted 7 minutes.
On the way home, an illegal alien ran a stop sign and smashed the bike, 'car, and me. Broken left leg, both hands broken, hyper extended both thumbs, and some way or other, two back teeth were fractured.
No Kansas license of course. the coppers were great, hooked him for Failure to yield and the license violation.
Worse..... I couldn't go to the Mexican border. The 10-day watch was in October and I was still on crutches. Ok, maybe I'll heal well enough for the April 10-day. Nope, still to injured. So...... it is Illegal Alien 2, Texas Border Volunteer border watch operator, -0-. I'm shooting for October, 2012.
Many Biker buds helped me put the world back together.... fiberglass, paint, even pin striping, and now almost all is well. I'll drop a couple of pics when I get them.

Geez Rossi!! Here's hoping that was a once in a lifetime experience and you have many years of uneventful riding from here on out. Good luck and best wishes!!
Is it wired correctly? Perhaps the stoplight filiment is working as a tail light.
Lonnie
Good thought Lonnie, I don't have a schematic for the 'car (I have the original manual... there isn't one), but do for the bike. The stop light is correctly wired to the stop light/running light red-lensed socket that works fine. I really think it is wired correctly to the running light. After I took the long look, I had my bud, (a professional) look, and he agreed. Oh, and one more thing..... the rear runner is a single-seat socket. The bulb, when we identify it, will be a singe element.
The logical mechanic might ask the reasonable question, what does the front running light look like? Ha! good question. That socket has a double seat, and that bulb is a two-filiment 1034 that works perfectly on it's lower element.

The 1156 is 32 CP single filament stop light lamp.
I checked my shop lamps and found a single filament Chech 21 CP bulb, a GE 1073HI 21W and a P21W Stanley. Any of the three 3 will work as a taillamp bulb.
21CP tail and 32CP for stop.

Thank you Lonnie.... just what I needed. I was going to call Mark Wunderman at Velorex on Monday. He's a real nice guy, put not real knowledgeable about the older hacks, and doesn't seem to want to go to the manules or a savvy shop guy.
Although I'm new to to sight, I was confident someone could pull the trigger. Thanks again.
Reardan Tom: Thanks for the comments. It seems most of the posters are very polite on this site. Not the case sometimes in othesr I write one.

I have a mid 70s Velorex on my Sporty and it has an 1157 bulb on top and a "interior" style bulb under. Unless someone changed my light housing. with no wiring suggestions I just hot wire tested each one till I figured out what each one went to . I will look to see if I have a pic of the rear light housing

My lights went ballistic the other week adn it turned our to just be the ground cable came of the battery for the sidecar lights

just remember a weard thing with this light: As you are somewhere in potential nirwana and not metal ground. The moment the ground fails just a little you do not get a flasher, but a flashing stop light or run light.
Tie down well the base plate for a propper ground in each sidecar light. Just for to prevent surprises and perhaps a traffic ticket for wrong working lights.

After the crash, I was talking to my paint guy about this problem. He didn't have an answer, but he knew a hot shot hack guy who used to work at a Harley dealership and anything remotely associated with 'cars ended up in his bay.
Walter knew the problem, and suggested Eiko's GE 97, 4 candlepower single post bulb.
Problem solved.
Again, many thanks for the posts to try to help me.
