Would this be a good match or too much bike ?
The 700 Tour model would do well. The earlier 700S is a lighter 170# car has just a perimeter loop frame with much softer (unadjustable) suspension and would need an upgraded suspension to work well.

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the 700 & 700S ?
The early 700s had a steel fender, single tube frame and 15mm axle. The later (around 2005 and later) have a single perimeter tube frame, fiberglass fender but still use the 15mm axle and short swing-arm. Both have a non-adjustable shock.
The Tour models use a reinforced three tube frame, use a 20mm axle on a different swing-arm and have an adjustable shock.
I have a bolt-on suspension upgrade for the early models with 1" axle for heavier bikes and off-road usage.
