Does anyone have experience with the Triumph Speed Master 790cc as a tug for a CSC Friendship II hack. I am going to look at one this evening and would appreciate any thoughts. I will be using the rig for local travel to work and back, no long distance touring.

Currently it looks like too much of a job to rig the CSC to my BMW K1200 LT and besides I want to keep that as a 2 wheel touring bike.

Any comments will be appreciated.

The Trump should have no problem as a tug with the use you waht to put it to. The 800 and 900 Triumphs are comparable to 883 and 1200 Sporty's as a tug.
Good idea keeping the Beemer for Touring purposes.

Thanks for the reply Lonnie. I cut the deal last night and will pick it up next week. I am sure I will have questions when I start to make the connections.

My brother inlaw used to have a 900 speedmaster, I used to love that bike, it had plenty of pull and a nice top end speed. I think the rake on it will make for a good tug.

Thanks for the response. Can you share any details on the connection/mounting of the hack on the Triumph. I have started looking at what I will need. I am assuming the you can use clamp on fittings to the tubular frame. Did you have to make any modifications to the bike its self? Looks like I may have to relocate the rear brake line?

Thanks

I see that Dauntless Motors offers a subframe for Bonnevilles and Scramblers - maybe one will fit the Speed Master or maybe Dauntless could fix one up for you.
The guy I bought my Velorex from had it mounted on a Bonneville using the "universal" clamp on mounts. One of them wouldn't stay put - it kept twisting around the frame no matter how tight it was. His solution was to tack weld the clamp to his frame. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or if another way couldn't be found.

We have not done a speedmaster yet, The frame looks straight forward enough to make amount for. Triple tree's should not be a problem to make. It is possible that the tree's and mounts from the T100 might work, hard to say from photo's. The most fun bike I have ever owned was a Triumph Tiger that I ran a Ural sidecar on. The Triumphs seem to work really well as sidecar bikes.

I will probably be contacting you Jay for some hardware. So far the installation is coming along fairly well with parts that I have and some fabrication from a friend. I looked at Triumphs and thought it would be a good tug. I remember well when I lived in England in the 60s, there were Triumphs and Nortons with side cars all over the place. In many cases it was a family's only means of transport. There were some really pretty fully enclosed rigs.
