top speed
Well, I don't own a Ural but I do own and ride a Harley. I also own and ride a Motorvation Spyder sidecar and just passed the 100,000 mile mark with that 'hack.
hmmm, interesting
for the blub about the original post - top speed - hd's fy2000 manual says 80 is the top safe speed with two people on a single bike, with one person its ok to however fast it will go. the 2007 says 85 is the top safe speed. & the sidecar manual says that the combination can be run at whatever the bike its attached to is rated for so.. for a 2000 that is 80 and for a 2007 that is 85. ive run 85 with the cruise on and its just fine.. the cruise wont set above that but 90 seems ok..
however - i do slow down quite a bit for turns - i pretend im driving my company 4x4 3/4 ton pickup and corner that fast and all is just fine.
the blub about "only on fl police bikes" that blurb is in the police section of the web, the subject is that you cant mount a police sidecar on a police dyna or a police sportster.. there are two police fl types and both of those handle sidecars.
for domestic sidecars it lists all the fl swing arm bikes as acceptable. not the fl softail bikes.
when you order a "hd fl with sidecar" - the two halves are made in two different factorys many miles apart. they come in two crates listing the vin they match. when you open them up it takes very little time to put them together and they are sold with one title on one invoice as one "motorcycle with sidecar" and are delivered titled and registered as a assembled single unit.
or you can order them seperate as i have.
the pair are a approved vehicle in the us.

Cruising at 85 with a hack'd big twin? You must be talking kilometers per hour or that 'hack is a flatbed with zilch wind resistance. The big twins tend to dyno at about 60 horses, the same as the R100GS I had hooked to my Spyder. But unlike the HOG product, the GS had a tiny windshield and the 'hack had no windshield at all to compared to the big twin and HOG 'hack's barn doors. Said more slippery than a HOG(NYSE) GS with the same 60 odd dyno horses topped out at... 85 m.p.h.. And even with both cylinders out in the airflow, that GS would overheat at anything over a sustained 70 m.ph.
So if a BMW with the same horsepower, less wind resistance, and better cooling than a HOG hack'd big twin can top out at 85 and cruise at 70 if it's cool out, that HOG might top out at 80 and you'd best keep cruising speed under 60 if you want it to last.
But hey, the HOG(NYSE) product has matching serial numbers!
Haven't we whipped this dead horse enough already?
This is going nowhere!

I absolutely agree!!!!!!!!
ya i guess its dead - i feel like im in that time warp movie... im talking 07, he is talking 77 - BIG difference.
- i do run 75 to 85 in traffic on the freeways around here on my ultra with sidecar - probably every day i ride i get up to at least 80, if you cant keep up with traffic you really need to stay off the freeways. especially in the morning about 6am the slow lane is doing 75+.
- on i90 the other day with my wife & a couple freinds on a softail we ran 85 for about 45 miles, cruise on, one hand, except in corners where you really need to be paying attention.
its really no big deal..
