Hello all! Can anyone tell me what a good set of tires would be to use on a future rig, I have a 77 Goldwing, I'm getting it ready for a sidecar, it has a 16" rear mag, and a 19" stock on front which will later be recieving a mag same size. I'm looking for good tire wear and handling obviously. Thanks. Jim

As far as flat treads go the 16" twin tire from Dauntless Motors should be good. For the front an AVON Triple Duty sidecar tire in 3.50 x 19 will work. Any Avon dealer can order it for you..they may say there is no such thang but if they look they will find it.
If you stay with motorcycle tires the DUNLOP 491s work well for many folks.
Tire wear wil be a little better as a rule withthe flat treaded tires. Keep in mind that setup is th ekey to decent tire wear. Run as little toe in as possible.

Claude, not too long ago I tried VERY hard to get a 3.50/18 and could not find one anywhere. Finally ended up with a Russian tire from a Ural dealer. Do you have any contacts just in case I wear my front tire out before I die?

The Metzler Block 'K' is only avaiable in 4.00 x 18 to the
best of my knowledge. Usually goes for around 60 bucks.

The Avon triple duty MKII Sidecar Tire comes
in 3.50 x 19 and goes for around 80 bucks.

Pricing, of course, may vary.
I have seen posts of these tires being used in different sizes other than these but have never been able to substantiate the truth of that. Could have been a typo or an error on the poster's side? If anyone had real facts on that please post it here and a source for the tires.

Sorry, I have no personal experience with the Russian tires or sizes offered. I have heard they wear well and are hard as a brick.
Wagner Cycle may be a great source for Russian Tire info Ural related or otherwise.

Thanks Claude for the tire info, very useful. I checked out the Dauntless website and looked at the tire info should work out very well. will be placing an order soon. Next step is to pickup a sidecar, I did like the looks of the Kenna from them also but I really want to keep the cost down, since I don't know how a sidecar rig is going to work for my needs. I'm still looking at a couple of sidecars in my area. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know. All input is welcome. Thanks again!

Claude,
The Russki tire sizes are 3.50x18" and 4.00x19". They wear like iron and come in Hiway or Knobby tread pattern.

Lonnie- I got a 3.50/19 but maybe it is olde back stock (put the "e" inthere for effect)? Looks a little like a Jeep tire- kind of out of character, but I've gotten to like it. Is this size Russian no longer available now either?

The military tread 3.50x19" tire could be old stock, Dnepr or perhaps Chinese.

Far as I know, Russian, other tires that come on euro. sidecars new, are not available separately because they aren't DOT approved in USA. If I am incorrect, I'd like to know where such tires can be bought in USA.

I am currently using 491 Dunlops on my Guzzi hack.

How about tires for a Helix. My current tires are new (just changed them about 500 miles ago) and I'm expecting my sidecar in a souple of weeks. So when these wear out I'll need to look into something that will hold up well.
