The perfect rig
OK, let's say Uncle Harry passed on & left you an unexpected windfall.
What would you choose as your dream touring rig: tug, sidecar, extras.

I've always said the only thing I would change from what I have is I would want a Valkyrie Interstate instead of the Cruiser. Otherwise maybe a Rune with a two seater Kenda for traveling and a Guzzi California Vintage with a Ural for profiling.
Probably depends a great deal on how you will use it.
I looked at
1. Tremendous torque
2. Reverse
3. Reliability
4. Ease of installing rear car tire
5. Aftermarket accesories available
6. Alternator output (for accessories)
7. Type of drive (with enough torque, regearing isn't an issue, so no chain)
8. Comfort on the highway.
I use my rig for long trips, so am biased that ways.
Something built from scratch with gobs of power. Engine would be mounted at rear of sidecar and come from the automotive world and be tubocharged. Sidecar would have a couple of bodies which could be switched off dependant upon what type of riding we were planning to do. Steering would be via a centerhub system.
There woudl be a second rig for doing dirt roads and so forth. Also a one off rig It woudl be more conventional and have a leading link along with smaller car tires. Power would be either a rocket 3 triumph or a hyabusa with an auto engine not being ruled out.
R67/2 with a Stoye. >sigh<
I have watch this post for a bit and “for me” I don’t think there will ever be “the rig.” I was a sailor for a lot of years and there was no “the boat.” You have to give one thing to get another. So I would need at lease three rigs. One for the interstate, a big Honda with a sidecar and a trailer. What I have works well for around town and the back roads and it is a Honda 1100 with a Velorex 565. I also thing about off-road at times there are a number of good bikes out there for that and a one-off sidecar with two or three boxes with easy change out for what I was doing at the time.
Now here come the big money I would need a really BIG shop to put all of these and the one or two rigs I have forgot but would remember the next rally I was at. Did I say anything an H/P rig? Lol.
I'm with RichardMC4. I'd like a KLR with a motocross platform for difficult dirt, a Vstrom with a Ural for adventure riding, and some kind of big Honda with a Daytona 2+2 for the family. Oh and some kind of high performance crotch rocket/race platform for tinkering. After all, you don't play golf with just one club.

Much more important for THE PERFECT RIG is THE IDEAL MONKEY.
I never found him or her.
The rest could be done in my shop with 8-12 month vacation and a big wallet:
Harley engine block 1345ccm,
Long stroke crank,
Desmodromic force driven valve train from Ducati,
Racing integral frame with very grippy tires.
ABS arround,
clean up THOSE MOUNTAIN ROADS and block transit >
> where I have to watch now temperature gage and over heating breaks.
The first time I rode a special serpentine road here in CR was on an Enduro and every time I pass there since then in truck or car allways the same thing happens: > in my inner eye I whipe the bends....
Until somebody comes up from front or a hole wakes me up.
But the moment I would get these vacations I'd prefer to make my trip I interupted 18 years ago for to marry. Patagonia - Alaska ...
And I was told, now you can settle over to Kamchatga.
And for that something complettly different is needed...
First of all the back spline in order like before I damaged it the first time as 12 year old youngster.
Some dreams aught to stay dreams. Sad but true.
I am happy to just move my tinny rig arround against my doc's recomendations and daughters protest.
Best regards
