Test your sidecar IQ. What Brand/Model is this sidecar?
What is it? Any inside scoop on this model?
I'd say it was an early California Sidecar Co. Companion model.
Lonnie
Northwest Sidecars
MOLDED FENDER, BRIT TAILLIGHT, I'D SAY SPIRIT OF AMERICA. COULD BE EARLY (VERY) CALIFORNIA. THE MOLDS MADE THEIR WAY AROUND TO SEVERAL COMPANIES AND VARIOUS NAMES BUT I'VE FOUND THAT MOST OF THE MOLDED FENDER BODIES WERE SPIRITS. A NICE, LIGHT, $500.00 (IF COMPLETE) SIDECAR. SOME FOLKS ON EBAY THINK THAT A HARLEY OR BMW STICKER ADD A GRAND TO THE ASKING PRICE. IF YOU LOOK IN THE FILES HERE OR AT SCT I'VE POSTED THE ORIGINAL MOUNTING MANUAL AND OTHER STUFF THAT CAME WITH THEM NEW. THE SEAT IS A STANDARD DUNE BUGGY FIBERGLASS SEAT AND YOU CAN GET NEW COVERS OUT OF THE ADS IN ANY VW MAGAZINE. NEW WINDSHIELD IS AVAILABLE FROM GUSTAFFSEN PLASTICS FOR ABOUT $150.00.

I LIKE MINE. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.
(SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS, DIDN'T REALIZE THE LOCK WAS ON)
What is the big Acme thread in the loose parts pile for?
there are a lot of non original parts in that pic. Mine is pretty much as it came from the factory and I don't have any part that looks like that. After thirty years they all seem to aquire some custom pieces though. I'd bet it was some type of modified front lower mount which was pretty lame from the factory. Lonnie or Claude would probably know better than I. Having had one for a long time they catch my attention whenever I see one so I've learned a bit about Spirits over the years.

Spirit Eagle made by Spirit of America Sidecars ...or an EZ Rider...or a Pied Piper ...or an early California Sidecar when they were stil in California...or really any one of possibly some others.
This model sidecar, some with molded fenders and some not sure made the rounds.
The ones I have seen had a decent frame and a large 1"( I think) spindle but a puny little wire wheel with a smallish tire on it. The mounts were sorta questionable but so were many of that period.
They are LIGHT over all but with some mods make a nice sidecar. Even though small in size they are pretty roomy due to the long cockpit.
They do adapt well to a trailer hub and 12" trailer wheel and tire.
That box (saddlebag maybe?) of 'stuff' shown should remain as a converstion piece .... IMHO of course 🙂
Bob's sumation of sidecars acquiring additional mounting hardware over the years is so true. I have quite a collection at the shop from sidecars brought in of all kinds of examples of what NOT to do. If you even get to hear Gary Haynes' seminar on sidecar mounting he shows some good examples also that he took off of various rigs.

Vern: It's getting a flat black paintjob and some old skool pinstripes and replacing the Velorex 700 on my CB750 rig: http://www.chrisbastian.com/bikes
The Velo is going on my V-Strom if I ever get the subframe finished.
that is going to be a very cool rig. The CB750 / Spirit is a classic combo. With the "Ratrod" paint and details you'll have one fine commuter.
want to sell me the velo?
oh, yeah it's going on the v strom. Cool. Want to do the BlackDog next year?
