I am looking for my first sidecar. Been riding since the 60's and have owned this H-D since 1982. An auto accident 9 years ago has finally made it where I no longer ride, bike has only been started once a month for over a year. Anyone with a sidecar on a H-D, of this type and vintage, please advise based on your experience.

Thank you

Mike,
If your major need is for the third wheel many used sidecars will fill the bill. Your FXE is a naked bike with good frame access so a subframe type of mounting is not crucial.
Here is an affordable example: A FXSP mounted with an earlier Velorex 562 with our upgraded suspension. This was my personal rig for quite a while.
With the right priced used sidecar this setup can be duplicated for well under $2,000.00 and will handle high speed usage if desired or rough back roads if that is your cup of tea.

if you hunt on ebay you can find a factory sidecar for that - they go for much less than the current since they only mount up to the older frames. [do your reaserch so you really know what fits........]

you also can get a factory raked tree that makes handling really nice as well as lower gearing for better pulling.

the 1980 combinations are not very fast - but they work just fine.

if you go with a non hd sidecar - still try and find a factory raked tree.

they also made 3 speed with reverse transmissions - those are spendy but factory parts list so a regular shop can deal with it.
