Just saw this on the Sidecar Industry Council's site.
It may have appeared here before and if so my apologies for not having taken the time to check.

Thanks for posting this. It may be old news to some but it gave me a much better understanding of how dampers work. Have one on my Enfield and will be adding one to my Yamaha.
