Sportster w Velorex

Mounts on my Sporty w Velorex universal mounts
Try resizing your pix and they will upload better and a lot faster. 300 or so KB works great.
I mount the rear lower strut attachment about 6" farther back for better triangulation and a more solid setup. Approx. under the passenger footpeg works well.

Dough,
to use universal "oven pipe clamps" might be a good idea for a few month for to try out if You like riding a rig at all.
But I have seen them so badly twisted, that for long term riding You very fast will see that bike specific mounts on a subframe are the way to go for long term riding a rig.
The oven pipe clamps will dislocate as soon you ride on rough gravel or at frosty wheather.
Just my 2 cent.
Sven

Thanks for the Advice guys . Lonnie i will try to reduce pics and see if I can get that lower mount relocated. Sven so far (knock on wood) I ahve not had any movement. I have be running it since July of '11 and removed the sidecar over the winter and had the frame powder coated and reinstalled . I have a gravel road and driveway, and have been on some bumpy old unmarked roads and no movement yet.In September Aiden and I went on a 7 day 1350 road trip to the Tail of the Dragon in TN / NC and several other really twisty roads. There is always room for improvement though. Thanks guys.

Lonnie What is the lower mount attached to ? I dont remember having enough frame under there to mount to
I also see you have the bolt inthe sidecar clamp mount vertical to prevent it from rollng on the frame, i have the same thing on mine
The way you have this mounted will cause you to constantly have to realign the sidecar as it is not a question of if it is going to slip but more when it will slip. Triangulation should be much better then it is. Where you have your front lower mount placed leads me to believe that you more then likley have way to much wheel lead on this and as such you will have heavier steering then need be, more tire wear and a tendency for a head shake. Here is a link to our site showing a similar rig that came into our shop and how we fixed it http://www.dmcsidecars.com/703/the-result-of-improper-sidecar-mounting-and-the-proper-fix/ This rig had very poor triangulation of the mounts and as such they had slipped and the person who mounted it had attached the rear lower mount to the swing arm!!!! which is just about the dumbest way I have ever seen to attach a mount.
For your bike we also offer triple tree's to lower the steering effort $550 and also offer a steering damper should you need one however with proper mounts more often then not you will not need one.

I need to save up some money to get the raked tree's and the lower mounting kit. I will definately be getting them.
how does it go down the highway
will it keep up with trafic with two people
Looks like a really tight squeeze to get at the footpeg and brake pedal.

Zipper, it does pretty good for an 883. On some steep hills I lose speed but other than that I keep up with traffic. I have a 30# 3 yo plus 50ish #s of counter weight and a good size tool box in the back.
Mike its better now that I bent the mounting bar although it is good for hooking your foot under that bar when your hanging off the left side having fun in the twisties. It worked great when we were on the Tail of the Dragon
I had an '86 XLH 1100 Sportster with a Velorex back in the day; it had chain drive, 4 speed, carburetor with the bone shaker rigid mount motor. Great sidecar rig! Rode it from Alberta to the west coast in Nanaimo BC and then all the way to Ontario. Had my wife on the pillion and dog with luggage in the hack and it tracked well in most road and wind conditions. I miss that rig, but I know the upcoming Texas Sidecar Ranger installation on my Road Glide will bring back some of those happy days.
