Spirit Eagle: safety concerns?
A friend told me that there are some safety issues with the Spirit Eagle sidecar and suggested that it might not be good to mount it on a bike. It wasn't clear to me just what the safety issues might be.
I'm new to all of this. Can you tell me if there are particular known or rumored weaknesses to the Spirit Eagle sidecar?
Thanks for your thoughts

Not that I know of, what kind of bike do you want to mount it to? It may be to light for some of the biger ones
The Spirit's have been out of production since 1984. They have been attached to many large bikes. Not the ideal car for a big bike since it needs a lot of ballast to keep it on the ground. They are better suited for a small or middleweight bike, or as a leaner with a big bike.
They have a relatively light frame and use a small tire but I know of no failures in this department.

I have seen these with 1 inch, 1 1/8 inch axles which are fine. I have also seen these sidecars with 5/8 inch axles which I would not trust on a large bike. When we mount these sidecars we usualy beef up the frame and also modify the frame to the "boss and clamp" set up we use on our sidecars.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I'll check the axle diameter when it warms up a bit in the garage.
I'm thinking about mounting it on either a LWB R75/5 BMW or a monoshock R80 BMW.
I've got to see how many of the mounting bits and pieces I've got and then try to figure out what the overall cost will be to get the chair mounted, fit a new tire, re-wire the chair, repaint the exterior, redo the interior, etc.
I'm not sure yet if using the old chair wil be any less expensive than buying something new or at least still in production.
We make mounting kits for both of your BMW's We also have sidecar specific tires in the 16 inch size that your sidecar runs.
