Hi Folks,
I am the webmaster for Motorcycle Rider Education of Clearwater and have put together for them a 15 minute video of the trike/sidecar training that they are now offering the Clearwater, Florida. The course was developed by Evergreen Safety Council of Seattle, Washington. You might enjoy watching it, so here is a link to it.

Although I didn't attend a sidecar class in my state, this brought back memories of the motorcycle class I attended. The instructor thought I was terrible at riding a motorcycle. I was, but I was trying to not learn all the bad habits I'd have to lose when I got my sidecar rig. He laughed about that, but he understood. We didn't have the nice weather, as in this video clip. We rode and trained in the wet, cold, ice, fog and what ever back then. It was a miserable three days, but I did pass.

Hi Pat,
I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. Congratulations on passing the course. I ride two wheels and have taken the ERC course, which I enjoyed. Having videoed all three classes so far, I found that the Trike/Sidecar course was much more intense and riding a 3 wheeler, I believe is more difficult than on two wheels. You don't have to worry about putting your feet down when stopping nor are you quite as vunerable to slick spots on the roadway.. but it seems to be more physically demanding...particulary when cornering.
Thanks for your reply.
Paul

Yes, I did enjoy the clip. I copied and posted the link at the Soviet Steeds site, as well. Some of the fellows there actually knew some of the instructors.

It is a nice clip and does indeed remind me of the class I took in Texas for a standard motorcycle license. Seems like a ton of years ago now, but the clip brought back instant memories as if it were just yesterday.
Thanks for sharing it.

Big difference in the handling of the little Suzukies we used and the sidecars and trykes they used in the clips. I often wondered how those little bikes stood up to all the abuse we gave them as well as those before us. Sort of reminded me of a good old Timex watch, as they sure took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. I don't believe we ever got out of second gear during the entire class. 🙂

Good movie clip. I think it could be a bit shorter as some of the sequences seemed to be a bit long, but there's nothing that some editing wouldn't fix.
