This is a great website!! I am interested in purchasing a 1976 R75/6 with a California Companion (thanks for the info Lonnie). This will be my first Sidecar and I have been looking for sometime. The owner is firm at $5500.00. Any advice is appreciated.

NADA & KELLY BLUE BOOK be damned.

Vintage autos and bikes sell according to condition and rarity.
The most important issues are:

Can you afford it?
Does it light your fire?
Will your S/O let you buy it?
Is it what you really want?
How cool am I gonna look Tooling this rig?

Go for it! You'll be glad you did.

Much appreciated. The S/O and I had a heart to heart last night and it comes down to how cool it would be to own a sidecar. There is no other argument that stands up. We are going to give it the weekend and make a definate decision Sunday.

(The wife is supportive and lovely)

Torn between fun and practical.

I would say Go for it. I'm on wife #4, sidecar #1... She loves the
ride. Grandkids have a ball. Nobody wants grampa to grow up.
It doesn't get any better than this.

If it runs as good as it looks- go for it.
Seems like a real good deal to me.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am picking her up on Friday and will be riding home Saturday early morning. I will be riding from Anahiem to Chico (90 miles N of Sac). Would you recommend I-5 or Hwy 99. I don't anticipate any trouble, but I also have never driven a sidecar on the I-5,I am leaning toward Hwy 99, but have not driven on that either. The budget won't allow me to rent a truck or ship it up.

Any thoughts on the route?

Hi NorCal:
I think I agree with Lonnie.. 99. Google the areas, there are some parallel routes that have less truck traffic. I hope you are not planning to drive straight through. Congratulations on your "new" rig. Please let us know how it goes.

99 is by far the best choice. Gas stops, restaurants, something to look at and a hell of a lot smoother than I-5.

NorCal:
Are you and your brother taking turns driving the rig?
John Wayne, Long Beach, LAX, and Ontario are all closer to Anaheim then I am. Sorry, but I am East of all those locations. Maybe the seller can help.

I picked it up Tuesday evening and am having it shipped up Friday. I drove it from Disneyland to Burbank. AHHHH I-5 will make you a man!!! It rides like a dream with ballast in the sidecar. I am geeked just writing about it. Is it a bad sign to be 35 and excited like an 8 yr old the night before Christmas?

Thanks for all your words and opinions. I am sure I will be signing in from time to time now that I am one of you guys.
Take care,
Jeff
