DOES HAVING A SIDECAR RAISE YOUR INSURANCE MUCH

It may depend on the Insurance Co.
Some feel you are a better risk with a sidecar and charge no more.
Some will charge extra due to the added risk loss if they have to pay for repairs.
My current Co. asked if I wanted to add the sidecar to the policy for an extra premium.
My last Co. didn't charge extra and paid for damages to my sidecar as an accessory.

Ask around.

Progressive automatically gives you $3,000 accessory coverage. They consider a sidecar to be an accessory. Higher limits can be purchased for a reasonable premium.

Jack....

How do you like Progressive? My State Farm premium for the rig is less than 400/half, about 700 a year, but no claims in three years, so I don't know what would happen if I had one.

I've been with Progressive since 1968. Excellent service and no one around here can match the price. We've had four claims now and the longest I waited was 3 days for a check. Once, we even had the adjuster dispute that a body shop could fix the wife's car for what they quoted and he adjusted the quote upward by almost 20%.

I carry full coverage on the bike and a $4000 rider for the sidecar. If you don't get the rider, most companies will limit the combined accessory coverage to "not more than 10% of the value of the motorcycle". Since I sold the Valkyrie and bought my Moto Guzzi my bill has gone up. It's currently $264 per year for the two bikes. 12 month Full coverage on the Italian Job is $165 and liability only on my Hurricane is $99. I haven't told them that I don't have a sidecar on it now, as it soon will. I figured I'd just pay it for now.
Keep in mind that insurance prices vary greatly according to where you live. When I left Kentucky in 1987 I was paying almost $300 a year and when I lived in Hager City, WI, less than an hour from here, I paid $278 for one bike. I was told that one was because I lived less than 25 miles from a "No Fault" state at that time. :0)

I have Safeco Insurance and they too, consider the sidecar as an accessory.
Accessories up to $3,000 are covered with NO extra fees. You can purchase
amounts above $3,000 for an extra premium.

Thanks for the info. Living in the car theft capital of the world, Miami, rates for everything are out of sight. I have the hack "covered" under State Farms $3000 accessory option. I guess in a year or two, that is what it will be worth.

Jim - I'm happy with Progressive. No claims on the bikes but they did replace the windshield on my motor home a couple of years ago with no hassle. Great service.
I'm paying $1,219 per year for a '06 BMW R1200RT, a '07 Goldwing with a Hannigan GTL and a '07 VStrom 1000 with a dual sport sidecar that Claude is currently building for me. I live in a no fault state which I think ups the premium somewhat but also live in a very rural area with very low crime.
