Sidecar Insurance
I'm sure this question has been discussed before, but I'd sure like to hear some up-to-date comments from you all.
I own a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600 and had a custom Motorvation Formula sidecar built and installed on this bike. I have all my vehicles (and home) insured by Allstate. Before I had installed the sidecar my insurance included the bike and $1000.00 of "optional equipment" with $500.00 deductible. The cost is $11.29 per month.
I want to insure the sidecar for it's total cost of about $9000.00. It would also be considered "optional equipment" and Allstate is asking $226.10 additional per year. That would raise the premium to $349.63 with a monthly cost of $30.13 to insure my entire bike and sidecar with a $500.00 deductible.
Maybe I shouldn't insure the sidecar for so much, as I haven't really figured out what was sidecar and what I paid for special requests and services I paid to Motorvation. But I'll admit to this.... I love that sidecar and it has brought a whole new dimension of fun and utility.
If you have any comments, I'd sure like to read them.

The reason I do not get full coverage on mine is here in GA if the bike is more then 5 years old they will totally it over a bent front fender I have seen this. I have so many spares I would do better to put the money in the bank and if I do have a problem fix it my self and if someone else hits me it is up to them to pay me to fix it. Did you buy your side car new? Sidecars are considered an accessory.
That's something to consider. I bought the sidecar new. BnG
J have a Nomad 1700 with a Hannigan Astro GT sidecar that is now three years old. I have the sidecar insured for $5000 as an accessory (a compromise between what I paid for it and not having insurance at all).
I have my Level 2 '08 Goldwing and '12 Hannigan HMS-Sp2 sidecar insured with State Farm. I had the sidecar attached to the Wing by the mfg. this past Feb. State Farm does not charge me any extra because the sidecar is attached or so they say. I paid $188.65 for 11 months full coverage.
