sidecar insurance
About ready to add a Kenna single to my '98 GW SE. Will I run into a problem with my insurance people? Appreciate your response. Mike
Here in Ontario the sidecar is considered an accessory. We have up to $10000 of accesories allowed on each bike in my policy. My insurance company wanted the bill of sale copy and pics. The coverage went from $5000 to $13000 without a premium increase. My bike was only worth $5000 but with a new sidecar it more than doubled in value ...No extra insurance charge

Same here in NYS, it's an accessory, no additional premium.

Sidecars are considered an accessory in all 50 states. Hope it stays that way. People still need to check weith their insurance provider to make sure they have an accessory package on their policy that is sufficient to cover the sidecar.
🙂 Thanks for the replies. Mike
If you have a loan on the sidecar you need to change your coverage on your bike to match the requirements of the loan as a heads up. I wasn't able to outright buy the sidecar so I found out the deductible part after the bank sent me a letter needing proof.
When I first switched to Progressive a few years ago I wanted to increase the accsssory coverage to cover the sidecar. The insurance company sent a guy out with a camera to verify what I was telling them. He was impressed and I easily got the coverage I wanted. Now I've been hoping ever since I never need to use it... Just wrote the check yesterday for another year.
Yaa, I had to take my sidecar down to my agent to verify that I really had put one on. They took a phote and I also had to bring the sales receipt from Motoravation.

I called National General (Rider magazine insurance) after adding the sidecar. They classified it as an accessory BUT raised the premium to almost double what it had been. I'll be shopping around before next year's renewal, this is the first time I've had a premium issue with National General.
Best,

I didn't have any issue with State farm. They said I had up to $3000 in accessory coverage so no rate hike with me.
My insurance company added $5 or $10 to an already very good rate. I did not protest.
