I have a Yamaha V-Star 650 with a Velorex 562 sidecar. My wife has back problems and is having more and more trouble getting into and out of the sidecar. We cannot afford to replace the entire sidecar but would really like to have an opening in the side to make it easier. Anyone know where I could pick up just the tub that would bolt on without any modification?

I just did a modification on my 562 mounted to a 99 BMW R1100R by picking up a Velorex 700 tub with a poor windshield and a cracked lower tub, I took my 562 tub off, measured and checked with several folks and then took them both apart and put the 700 top onto the 562 bottom for my very own Velorex 631. As my gal is a little big the Velo fits snug and she has been using a strap harness (think flat dog leash material) I hook up and pass under the open 700 windshield that she can use to help pull herself up with. I've also been looking at everything from a modified remote fill wide, small diameter inner tube to remote lift airbags to electric powered scissor jack to make a seat lifting device as I am unwilling to spend a grand for DMC's excellent device, but I've also been looking at another sidecar that would make modifying this one not really cost effective and the one if I get stuff sold actually already has this and the tilt nose. To do your present setup you are going to have to drill out the rivets like I did, cut the front of the 562, make a decent step regardless on the frame, and practice together a method of entry and exit. The problem is the Velo 562 or any other Velo is lightly built and relies on it's togetherness for strength, or do as I did and go with a 700 top or entire tub. and then figure out a way to assist your wife in getting up and then setting things up so that she can step out incrementally.
Hope this helps.
Jim
