Side cars & Wheelchairs
Hey Guys ,
My name is Rance, I run a small 501 c-3 non profit that provides outdoor adevntures for the disabled..Turning Point Indian Nation. I am trying to put an event together in Eastern Oklahoma that would team up a Side car operator with one of my wheelchair people and ride the hill & curves of Tenkiller Lake. Most of our guys have never had the sensation of movement that a bike can provide..If you think you might be able to help please let me know.We are shooting for next spring late april early May...Thank you

Go to Old Fort Harley Davidson. Mike their head mech. rides one to work every day he tells me it his truck. He tells me he hauls potting soil and every thing with it. I've seen him stand but never walk. load his wheel chair on the sidecar craws over and off he goes.Rudyr
Thanks man ...I will go there this week...

Hi Hawg: What type of sidecars do you need: Wheelchair "accessible" (that is, suitable to load a wheelchair and passenger) or more customary sidecars?

Once you get a date chosen, let people know. Not everyone will live close to your location so those of us a distance away would need to get it on our calendar and figure out the logistics to see if we could get there for the event.
Swamp,
i have to admit I do not kow all the options that might be availiable.. I have imagined the type of sidecar that would hold a rider only. I have volunteers that lift the guys out of their chairs and place them where they need to be. We have done this with PC bass tournaments. One of the most inportant aspects to make theguys the focus of the day and we just get strong guys to lift them so they do not have to struggle an possibly get embarassed.
In my mind i had them riding along side Barney Fife in BlacK Jack Pershings motorcycle. With all the help I am getting we sould be able to find a way .....
Loon,
Okay, I think in late April - early May will bethe best time for us .Paralyzed guys can really be affected by the temperatures either way of comfortable..I have to take all that into consderation so we do not have any problems. That why I am thinking that time of year.
Lake Tenkiller is a beautiful area with large hills and windy curves. Tenkiller is located in the Cherokee Hills and there is tons of Native American history along the lake, its near the birthplace of Sequoyah, the cheif hat developedthe Cherokee alphabet..
I will get a definite date ,soon.....Thanks for thehelp.....Rance

Pfingsten = Whitsuntide is easy to memorize and has nearly always good weather. In Germany we used this date for the rally at the brain damaged nursing home. A long weekend with lots of activities for the kids and riders.
And the other meeting in February, in the snow. The kids were all year through talking about these two events that made their day.
Best wishes
Sven
