While doing re-engine on my '95SE Wing [to '96] on CSC FSIII sidecar rig, discovered exhaust manifolds had lot of small problems. Welded-on nut plates had either rotted away or bolt ends corroded in nuts/snapped off when attempting removal, even after long soak w/Liquid Wrench. Large heat guard on both sides corroded away at twin center weld points, making sheet metal shields loose [caused annoying vibration when riding]. Was wondering if other folks experienced these glitches and how they fixed them, short of welding [which I cannot do or afford on s s]. Maybe replace manifolds, if one can find any cheap, good ones?
Will drill out as many frozen bolt ends, re-tap w/correct metric thread, where I can. Must fabricate new nut plates where they're gone, so I can firmly attach lower sheet metal exhaust piping shields on both sides. TTFN.....Old Tom aka papasmurf in NH
