Seat advice wanted
Not exactly sidecar related but I thought you nice folks might be able to chime in. Since Johnny Sweet did the nose tilting mod to the Velorex, my wife can now get in and out of the sidecar a whole lot easier so we can ride more. The problem is, my poor old tired hind end can't stand to be on the Yamaha V-Star 650 for more than 75 miles or so before it starts to get real uncomfortable, and I miss the days gone by when we could ride anywhere we wanted. I was thinking about getting a Mustang seat. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they really that much more comfortable than the stock seat? If not a Mustang, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. In the immortal words of Bette Davis 'Gettin' old ain't fer sissies!'
I had a mustang seat on an 1100 vstar and took it coast to coast one summer. Most pleased with the seat (and bike). I would call it a 450 mile seat. Mile 451 made you want to get off and walk but less than that and you were good to go the next day. It was a better distance riding than seat then one on my current Road Glide Ultra. I think the addition of a car makes a difference in ride quality tho. I cannot testify how good with a hack. I get about 300 miles on my current seat and then wish I could ride in the side car for a while. I never thought I could envy a passenger until I got a sidecar.
I replaced the stock seat on my 1100 V-Star with a Hartco. They will build a custom seat for you based on your height weight and inseam. I ordered mine to be higher and more set back than stock to accomodate long legs. The solo rider seat with built in backrest was $484 shipped in 2009. It's been a great seat. They are in Florida (386) 698-4668.

There are two seats of choice by the Long Distance crowd that will give you 100% comfort for the long haul. The Russell "Day-Long" saddle and Rick Mayer Seats. Both are custom made to fit you. I have had several of each and both are very good.

The 15" wide solo touring Mustang seat on my Sportster rig has proven comfortable for 300 mile days, but Hartco, Russell and Mayer are excellent suggestions as well.
