I was heading to the North entrance from Cody on my Honda / Dneper. I passed a sidecar rig heading in the opposite direction. It looked like a Harley. Anybody from this site?
I've been waving to all the bikes. There are a lot of them out this summer. Most of them give me a low wave like its too much effort to put your hand out in the wind. Some just raise a few fingers or nod. This guy stuck his arm and thumb straight up in the air when he saw my rig pass by. I returned the salute. It's nice to see some honest enthusiasm from a fellow sidcarist.

I give the low arm salute to Squids, sidecarists, trikers and four wheeled vintage machines. Most signal back. Except for near Sturgis where your arm would get tired. Besides, most of the "Bikers" around there were driving motor homes pulling a trailer full of bikes.
In 4 Provinces and 6 states in ten days We saw less than a dozen sidecar rigs. About half were Harley/Harley. Most others were Velorex's.

Lonnie, know what you mean, At the Eureka Springs, ARK. rally Of the people that filled out the questionaire I was the second youngest to drive their rig, I'm 61. A lot of pretty trailers and rigs with no mileage on them.

At least the Hackers were on the road, not trailer queens.

I wave back at ALL the cyclists that wave and I will wave at all cyclists, with or with sidecar. I ride a 1991 Springer Softail with a sidecar, and I always get the looks and waves, but then how many one legged cycle riders do you see? Wave at me and you will get a wave back, guaranteed.

I, personally, always think it's neat to see another hack on the road. It really is a pretty rare occurrence. So, of course, I wave enthusiastically. I wave to all bikers who don't show "attitude." Of course, when you're near a rally, it just gets too ridiculous! I even want to wave when meeting another bike if I'm driving my car. Then I just feel silly.

I wave at everyone driving a Lincoln too, How ridiculous, besides I thought you were not supposed to let go of the handlebars.

Mark: If'n the car had a big floppy eared dog and camping gear tied on every available surface of the hack it be us. We were in that area finishing up a 7,000 mile 6+ week tour of the Northwest. We were on a Sportster / Kenna combination. The dog in the side car was a real people magnet. Actually had people chase us down to photo the dog. Sure learned a lot about touring with a side car. Put over 9,000 miles total on the rig this year. Sure learned a bunch about side cars. ooopppps already mentioined that. I think in 6+ weeks of touring from Norhtern BC to CA we saw 12 sidecar rigs. Anyone need details let me know. steve, Mary & Shelby Snow Dog in Nowheresvile Idaho.

Hill,
It wasn't you. No dog or passenger. Looked Harleyesque. Guy looked to be in his 30's
with all the black leather stuff and a doo rag on top. He was riding with another 2 wheeler.

Hey lumpc,

What did you mean was ridiculous, waving at other bikers or waving at Lincoln's? Who told you that you weren't supposed to take your hands off of the handlebars?

Connie, I'd be waving at everybody all the time in light of the recent popularity boost, and ya, it is ridiculous, do I wave at everyone that has their hair cut the same as I do? wears the same jacket? how about has the same sunglasses? same tires on their car? Yep at certain speeds it's not nice to take my hands off the handle bars. If I wave at the sidecar rigs, I wouldn't wave at any one cause i never see another one.

Ha, ha! Well, I suppose waving at people on bikes is sort of like smiling at people that you meet on the street. It's such a small thing to do that just makes you feel good. When I'm on my bike, I'm just happy and I figure that other bikers are feeling that way, too. I'm Southerner, we're well known for being hospitable. Of course, smiling causes wrinkles, but then, so does frowning! I don't believe that waving causes wrinkles (lol). Well, all rigs are different, but I can take one hand off the bars at most any speed, but certainly while riding down the average road. Sidecar sightings are pretty rare, that's why other folks find us so interesting. We're rare birds. Anyway, if I see you on your rig, guarantee you that I'll wave.

I'm with you. I can say, without hesitation that the reason I fell in love with motorcycles at about age 8 was the two guys on Harleys who would ride past a group of kids on bicycles and always give us a thumbs up and a wave as they passed.

I will smile and wave to anyone who has the courtesy to do it to me and to many who don't.

Someday I'll tell you the story of the time a little old lady at a yard sale offered to trade me a six foot tall bookshelf made out of an old Canoe for a ride down Main Street in my sidecar. And the funny looks I got riding 41 miles of freeway with a six foot tall canoe sticking out of my sidecar. :0)
