Rush
Anyone a fan of Rush (the band)? I use to be and I recently rediscovered them. And I stumbled on the fact that Neil Peart (the drummer) is a huge motorcycle rider (maybe I'm one of the few that didn't know this). He often takes his BMW's on the road and makes side trips while they're on tour. He's also a writer and he's written a couple of books about his journeys. My wife bought me two of his books for Christmas and then promptly stole the firsts one.
The one she stole is "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road". Neil lost his only daughter in an auto accident and then later (less then a year) his wife. He hit the road on his bike for a year of therapy. He wrote the book about his journey.
The one my wife left me is "Traveling Music : The Soundtrack to My Life and Times". I'm only a chapter or two in but it's pretty good.
What's struck me about the band is that, despite their incredible success, they've remain very down to earth. They haven't followed the whole "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" path that destroys many bands.
Anyway, looks like it's gonna be a good read. I thought I'd share. Not exactly sidecar related, but it's all about the journey.
Neil's website is http://www.neilpeart.net. There's several excerpt from his books on his web site. And several articles from motorcycle mags.
Hey there sinister,
I too am a big Rush fan. Great band, one of the best. Great time to rediscover them, I think their most recent stuff is the best of their career. Vapor Trails which contains the song Ghost Rider was one of our go to albums at work until Snakes and Arrows came out, which took it's place. Had the pleasure of turning a younger guy who worked with us in 08 into a Rush fan! Ghost Rider is a great book, truly inspirational. Neil really expressed the healing power of the open road. For me music has always had that same healing power. It's just good for the soul. I haven't read his other book you mentioned, but I'll have to now.
Happy Trails,
Turtle
