What do you guys think of a Road King Liberty sidecar combo with 5 degress triple tree conversion?
How does it handle? How complicated is it to install? Would you take it to the highway? What other concerns should I have? etc?

On the Liberty web site, featured sidecar, the story Ned Akerman wrote a few years ago will let you know a lot of what one guy thinks of his RK/Liberty combo. And don't tell him I was the one who said so, but he's aged 3 years since that was written and he's still on the road and enjoying life!! Oh yeah, I should mention also, Ned is a long time friend and a heck of a good guy.... If you want to get in touch with him personally with questions, send me a PM and I'll let you know how.

Trizy,

I have a 1978 FLH (93 inch S&S Shovel Head Style) with a Liberty car, their raked triple tree, the stock Harley steering damper that is a series of fiction plates with a hand tightened control that fits on the neck near the handle bar mounts (very little dampening needed to control the slight low speed, 25-35 mph, wobble , a brake proportioning valve to adjust brake line pressure to the car (for loaded or un-loaded weight).

The car was set up very carefully to Liberty specs. and it is great. I have not had to tweek it at all. I have had it up to 90 mph, it handled great through the whole range.

I don't think you will find a better car, Pete at Liberty builds a great car.

I also attended the Evergreen Sidecar school in Seattle. The best thing to do is attend any sidecar training you can. Driving a rig is really different from riding a motorcycle. You will love a hack.

I have had the car since 2001 and been on trips up to 3500 miles long.

Mike
