Hi;I use J.C.Taylor for my antique bikes think it is about $7/1000 for coverage but then there is a minimum of $35/year I think.BUt these have collecter plates on them.I know my 47 chief/sidecar runs about $120/year for 20K value with them.Mike I think you would find Wi.did away with the January exemption!At least that is what I heard.Not big deal on bikes but could be on cars etc!

I just tried GMAC Insurance and almost fell off my chair at the quote-
Half the coverage I have now with Farmers, and the value of the bike is the original price of the bike minus depreciation, for $3,574 per year!
I asked why so high and was told that it's based on how long I've had a motorcycle license. In my case less than a year on a permit. I said a motorcycle license isn't required in CA when a s/c is attached, just a drivers license (as Gov Arnold discovered for us) but to no avail.
I guess they figure that during that first year chances for an accident are pretty high.
At 62 I've calmed down quite a bit since my teenaged years yet I feel I'm being put in the same high risk category as if I was a 19yr old.

Not according to the DMV Website;
******************************************
Vehicles that qualify
All motor vehicles 20 years or older that have not been altered or modified from the manufacturer's specifications.

Things you should know
License number is assigned to the owner for as long as you own the collector vehicle. A letter suffix is added to the number i.e., 1A, etc. for subsequent collector vehicles owned by the same person. Registration does not expire.
To qualify for Collector plates, each owner must have at least one other motor vehicle, which is used for regular transportation, and is currently registered in Wisconsin under the same name(s) as the collector vehicle.
Truck type vehicles with Collector plates cannot haul more than 500 pounds.
Collector plates cannot be personalized.
Collector vehicles cannot be operated during January unless a temporary plate is purchased. A five-consecutive-day plate may be purchased by sending form MV2750 with the correct fee to the address provided on the form.
Street modified vehicles, replicas, homemade motorized vehicles or vehicles that have been altered or modified from the original manufacturer's specifications do NOT qualify. These vehicles may be eligible for Hobbyist license plates, form MV2388 .

************************************
Here's something I never noticed before;

For residents of Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Waukesha and Washington counties, until July 1, 2008, an emission test is required within 45 days of the date that a Collector plate is issued if the vehicle is a 1968 or newer model.

What about getting 'Uninsured Motorists" coverage?
I have it now for 250/500 and it adds $120 per year.
I've got health plan coverage, so do I need it?
Howard

In California it's very wise to have uninsured motorist insurance. Lord only knows which cars are insured. There are many uninsured drivers who drive on the road every day. If you get hit by an uninsured or under-insured motorist, you'll be very glad that you have it.

Quotes of 7 to 9 hundred dollars are common here in Texas. Partly because the insurance lobby owns so many representatives in the congress here.

It's pretty amazing how little you can buy a congressman in Texas for. A box of good cigars and a country club membership is usually enough.

It's amazing how a thread starts about Guzzi's and insurance and gets taken over by talk of Crooked Congressmen in Texas.

Finally got a good rate with Haggerty Insurance. They just do classic bikes, cars and boats.
The rate is $166 per year with a declared value of $11K which covers the s/c.
The conditions are that the bike is over 20 years old, is driven no more than 1,000 mi per year and have a second bike.
