Welcome to the USCA Sidecar Forum.
Looks great, nice description and pictures. Seen something similar before. Also looks like a copy of a H-D, before they went to a disc brake.
My idea of a reverse gear is to think smart: Park up hill so that you can roll back out, don't park where you can't pull forward. Some times people even ask me if I have a reverse, Not. The only reason that I might want a reverse, would be to Fly d Chair backwards, LOL!!!

Flying the chair backwards was attempted by a few of the brave (foolhardy?) a few years back at one of the URAL, America homecomings.
I believe altogether three participants attempted it on a URAL Patrol, One named Bob(last name withheld), One named David(last name withheld, and one other dauntless individual(both names withheld).
Anonymous Quote: They said it couldn't be done, They said "There's nothing to it". So they tackled the job that couldn't be done, and found they couldn't do it. heh, heh.
I believe all turned turtle before much flying was done, but like a lot of things, you'll never know if you don't try it.
